Re: Polaroids as Patch Sheets

Digicam is the way to go. I read a news report several months ago that Kodak was closing it's Polaroid manufacturing. Apparently there are a lot of Polaroid purists (sound familiar ?) who are buying up the remaining stock. They love the immediacy and inaccuracy of the format.

^classic  "try that knob" (pointing to filter cutoff freq) "nice. so all these knobs do something different?" Too funny. He's on to something,I would love to find an old beat up DX7 and just glue on a bunch of knobs that don't do anything. Or label all the knobs "filter cutoff freq" That...

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths

my favourite guy is a friend who constantly says "i need a midi" when he is refering to anything electronic. software, controllers, drum loops (audio and midi). i thought he would get past this, but, 2 years later, its a "a midi". i think its the "a" that bugs me most! this guy's name isn't Bruce b...

Thanks for jumping in Primal Drive. I've never been accused of having keyboards sound "too good". I wish !

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths

"Midi sounds like s**t" My ex-girlfriend's boyfriend. In my mind's play you punch him and say, " consider yourself THRU ." and to Sound Engineer, I apologize for generalizing. If I'm not incorrect I think I said most sound guys in MY EXPERIENCE, not your experience. If your experience has been great...

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths

People's perception of real would be severely dashed if they saw how much computer and outboard processing went into their "real" guitars and drums. The double standards are endless: people eww and ahh over a guys 40 guitars but can only wonder why someone would need 5,10, or 20 different keyboards....

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths

I remember the Human League (of ALL people) putting a statement like that on Crash: "no sequencers were used on this record (paraphrased)" . I guess in their defense they were trying to separate themselves from all the copy cats that came in their wake. Hey, didn't I just go against my thread guidel...

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths

The term "MIDI" got so badly burned into the general public's psyche during the 80s that I've encountered, more than once, people who know absolutely NOTHING about synths but still ask if my synths "have MIDI" (ususally said like it's a virus or disease). Not stupid, just annoying. Every one of thes...

I hate to go off topic but... is it me or does the title of this thread sound 1000x better than "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"?

Re: Does anyone have a decent scan of the OB8 page 2 functions

Thanks for posting that! I used to have an OB8 and just seeing that brought back some cool memories. It also made me realize how much my programming abilities have improved, half of those knobs made NO sense to me when I bought that keyboard 22 years ago.

Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths

Some guidelines: Has to be first person, can't be something you read somewhere. Quote yourself or someone else. Here's mine: Context... I am 12 and it's the early 80's, I am fascinated by synths but have none. I am trapped in the desert of California where Guitar Center and the internet are too far ...

Re: synth and cinema

I don't think anyone has mentioned this classic scene from Vice Versa (lot's of synths in the background, the hilarious salesman appears to be playing some PF type of Yamaha). What's with father/son role reversal films and playing instruments (see Big)? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpOQ3v2vgWE Som...
