A discussion on improving synth design.

I think about designing my own synths a lot. I look at features from many hardware and software synths and try to think of ways they could be better. I believe that software is overtaking the market for hardware synths. They're much cheaper, there's less s**t to lug around, and softsynths usually ha...

How much are you looking to spend? What about a VA, like the popular Virus series? Virus has velocity and aftertouch and great action. Virus Kb's go for around $800+... maybe cheaper. VA's can sound fat too, h**l even VST's can. Vanguard is one fat a*s softsynth.

These are pretty.
I knew a guy that threw one of these away... if only he'd known their value, they could've bought him a lot of crack.

These do have greater polyphony, but few presets, very little memory if any, and most of are ugly. They don't really hold a candle to the Andy in terms of ability.

It might have been the MTV I watched in the mid 80's with my older sister... It might have been the video games I played on Nintendo and Super Nintendo... It might have been the electronic music that took me way too long to discover... It might have been when a friend showed me the Alesis website ba...

What real analog synth has the highest polyphony?

Well I'd be shocked if it was the Andromeda weighing in at 16 voices.
Anybody know if a higher voice count has been achieved in a true analog synthesizer?

The Q phoenix editions (including the Q+) are, I believe, all black with red inlay, like this: http://www.novamusik.com/images/screen_shots/waldQpluscoll.jpg at first I did'nt like it and would have prefered the old colourway, but its grown on me, and i have come to feel that black is appropriate f...

These things always take a while to come out, they're probably busy getting the Phoenix editions out so they've got a bit of capital to start producing the Blofeld. Patience. :) I bought one, the very last Q+ I think. The last Phoenix Edition anyway. Look... http://www.audiomidi.com/Waldorf-Q--P879...

1. I like more than one on-board modulation control, two modwheels or a modwheel and ribbon controller. I hate those damn spring-loaded joysticks on Roland boards, but I love their D-Beam. 2. Ability to design my own sounds or at least edit/save the presets to my liking. 3. Intuitive control surface...

Trancegate?

I've really fallen in love with the Vanguard plug-in. Every preset in it just kicks a*s. There's a preset category "GAT....", that utilizes Vanguard's Trancegate feature. A nice alternative to it's basic arpeggiator. The Trancegate has a 16 step gating sequencer. Does anyone know if Gate/Compressor ...

Yeah, I've seen this video before. As for a hardware oscilloscope, I see plenty on ebay for anywhere from 40 to 100 dollars. How expensive are the bulbs for them, cause if they cost more than an oscilloscope why not just buy a new oscilloscope?
