Re: Problems with Novation D-Station
I made a Cubase device panel for the D-Station a while back and although I don't play with the front of it any more I think I know whats wrong. Don't use the [-] and [+] buttons on the keypad to select drum sounds when you want to edit them, if you want to select a sound to edit just move the right ...

Re: s900 will turn on but gets no sound(update)!!
My S950 started doing the same thing as your S900. At first I thought the OS was gone and that was the reason why all I was getting was all lights and no LCD or drive activity, but it turns out the OS for my S950 was still OK despite this failure. What I found was if I disconnected a few of the inte...

Re: Akai S950 hard disk

This picture shows the IB-109 SCSI card installed, not to be confused with the RS-232 connector.

Re: Yamaha RM1x or similar to control soft synths?
The RM1X is a good sequencer, the sounds have some limitations (some of the drum sounds are OK and the effects section is handy), it will work as a controller but that too has limitations, such as the step sequencing only allowing you to hear the sound you are programing (you can use the step button...

Re: Open labs DBeat
What I like about the Open Labs gear is it fits right into your pocket, so you can use it on the bus.

Re: The first thing you sampled
I beat boxed into the SK-1 (OK...I might have done a raspberry into it first) then I plugged it into my RadioShack mixer and sampled a beat from some record from my Technics SL-D2, eventually I discovered the tuning trim pot on the bottom of the SK-1 and I wired a larger trim pot on the end of a wir...

Re: Roland JV-880 Problem
The JV-880 has an internal demo like the JV-80 you could give that a go and see what happens...You should see a dog or horse, or whatever the h**l it is, running across the screen when it is in ROM play...with any luck the demo bypasses any zero volume that might be a MIDI related problem...not too ...

Re: 9 year old kid: what HW or SW to buy him to make music?
Reason and a controller keyboard. You can set up a default for him with just what he needs to get going, like a ReDrum drum machine and an NN-XT sampler (the visible controls are quite simple) then as he learns you can show him more.

Re: Akai S950 hard disk
The S950 had 2 storage options the IB-105 Atari/Supra hard disk drive interface board and the IB-109 SCSI disk drive interface board (although originally made for a Syquest drive you can connect a Zip disk drive and use 60 Mb from a 100 Mb Zip disk)

Re: akai s950 Ram Install
I think the memory has a long bolt with a nut holding it in place, so you have to undo the nut before pulling the memory.

I made a Cubase device panel for the Drumstation, so I could control/automate it from within Cubase. http://www.dhoop.de/ As for the power, I have not had any problems, make sure the plug on the end of the power supply is correct (the wrong one can still work but can also lose contact) I use a littl...

I got this crappy tape deck from cash converters for $20 in the 90's and when I got it home the bastard would not work, so the next day I took it back, and because it only had a 30 day repair/replacement warranty, they would not give me a refund, but they gave me store credit, so I looked around the...
