Re: Do You Keep a Synth Just For One Special Sound?

I have a DX9 (worth about a quid) which I keep for one organ/pad sound. I would've assumed that a TX-7 or DX-7 can do exactly the same thing, it's even sysex compatible AFAIK. But maybe there's something broken in yours that makes it cool :) [DT]X7 != DX9. The 7s are 6-operator and the 9 is a cheap...

Re: Easiest way to tell if a Juno 106 has no defects?

Play a series of 6 different notes. Playing the same note 6 times will just reuse the same voice each time. Unless you put it in test mode, round-robin mode first. In fact, do just that. Hold down Transpose while turning on the 106, then hit Poly 1 and Poly 2 at the same time. Now each note you play...

Re: lubing faders/sliders

I had great results using Deoxit Faderlube on a Pro-One. Granted it's pots instead of sliders but the principle is the same.

Re: Elka Synthex: Digital Ring Modulation??

Does the Synthex have a *digital* ring mod? An analog ring mod is certainly doable on a DCO synth, since it occurs beyond the oscillator stage (unlike cross mod or FM). If it's digital, it's probably the XOR method Cornutt mentioned (like the MG-1 uses). It wouldn't be sample multiplication without ...

Re: The great JX8P giveaway! -thoughts on the synth-

Wow, cool! I would never turn down *any* free synth but the JX-8P is definitely an underrated gem. Especially for what has already been mentioned, moody pads, brass, etc. I had one for a couple months in early 2008. I got one that needed some TLC off eBay for cheap, fixed and cleaned it up, and then...

Re: Kool & The Gang - Get Down On It

There's an Oberheim OB-Xa visible in this video around 0:34:

Unfortunately, the quality of the video is c**p (a combination of psychedelic effects + faulty compression) so I can't readily make out what's beneath it. It could be a Yamaha SS30.

Re: dx7 pitch bend

Any midi device that sends pitch bend controller data would work.

What's your intended use?

Re: Roland D-50 Aftertouch problem

Of course, if you can't fix your D-50's aftertouch, you can always midi it to another keyboard that does have working AT. :) I have my D-550 connected to my Motif XS6. The XS6 generates aftertouch just by breathing on the keys. Off the original topic, but something I noticed: with the exception of r...

Re: Looking for a synth

"Built-in speakers" pretty much confines you to "home keyboards", of which Casio and Yamaha make a variety of them. Check your local music store, they'll have something.

Not many of them have MIDI in/out, but some do.

Re: Yamaha DX7 vs. Yamaha DX11

Are we supposed to be impressed with that video?? Quite frankly, I've heard better sounds on a $19.95 child's keyboard at Walmart. Clyde  After watching that video, I will never say "I suck at playing" again! As for the DX11, guess it does a pretty good imitation of the "Super Mario ...

Off the top of my head I would say Roland D-50. Or any of the "D" series. (10, 20, 50, 110, 550).

Re: Roland D-50 Aftertouch problem

I presume you've tried working the aftertouch slider back and forth a few times? When I had a D-50, it often helped to unhook the connector on the side of the keybed that connected the aftertouch strip and clean it with a pencil eraser. If that doesn't work, you might need to check for loose/broken ...

WOW... I'm in love with the D-50 again. Well, in love with its sound anyway... now I just need a decent editor for my D-550 so I can make such gems of patches on mine too...

White Light

Here a little something I threw together the other day for a friend of mine who lost her father to cancer, and another friend who lost his wife to cancer, and another friend whose 20 year old cat passed. Been a tough month for several of my good friends. White Light Featuring my Motif XS, Andromeda ...

Re: Anyone familiar with on the fly voice switching on the M

I can't speak for the MO6 since I've never played with one, but on my Motif XS6 there are a few ways to do it: 1. Save the patches you need for a given song in the same bank/section. Then you only have to hit the number button to change. (This way will work for any synth. If you use the built-in pre...
