Re: A Very '80s Ensoniq SQ-80 Demo

Yeah, the drums are from the SQ-80 also! This song needs a little more development. It's hard to do too much with 8-note polyphony, drums included.

A Very '80s Ensoniq SQ-80 Demo

I only used the SQ-80 and an Alesis MIDIVERB III to add some light reverb and chorus. Enjoy

Re: Miami Vice-ish Ensoniq SQ-80 Song

Ah, Multipac! It was your music that inspired me to make this ambient track. Glad you enjoyed it! I think I may just have to break down and buy iDrum. The onboard drums on the SQ-80 can eat up over half of its 8-note polyphony :? not to mention their tinny sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqhTU...

Miami Vice-ish Ensoniq SQ-80 Song

I made this song today using only my Ensoniq SQ-80 and Alesis MIDIVERB III effects unit. It's simple but I think it reveals the depth and warmth of the SQ-80's analog filters.

Re: Help Out A Total Newbie... Sending Patches

That was it! I enabled this mode, sent the file and voila, my internal bank was full of new patches from the SysEx file I sent. Thank you very much :D

Re: Help Out A Total Newbie... Sending Patches

I tried MIDIOX and I didn't know where to start... I tried to "set up" the MIDI device (synth) and got it to send the sysex file (or I assume so, it had the progress bar and it finished), but I couldn't figure out how to set up the SQ-80 to receive. I looked at the MIDI and STORAGE pages but it seem...

Help Out A Total Newbie... Sending Patches

How would I go about sending some patches contained in a .syx file from my computer to my synth? My computer is connected to my Ensoniq SQ-80 with a standard MIDI cable and I've successfully used Anvil studio to play MIDI songs on the synth. I just don't know how to go about transferring the data. H...

Re: Remaking "Staccato Heaven" Patch for SQ-80

I almost bought a D-50 but ended up with an SQ-80 since it was much cheaper and had a neat built-in sequencer. Funny you should mention effects, just last night I bought an Alesis Midiverb III Multi-Effects Unit for the Ensoniq. I'm hoping it will help add some depth to the sound. I wish I could be ...

Remaking "Staccato Heaven" Patch for SQ-80

I've been trying to remake the famous, instantly-recognizable Roland D-50 patch "Staccato Heaven" on my SQ-80 and I'm still coming up short. It doesn't seem to have the depth of the D-50's patch. Both synths have a similar voice structure so I'm sure it could be done to a degree. Has anyone tried t...

Re: I got an ESQm!

Syntaur is actually located in my town, New Braunfels, TX. I nearly flipped out of my chair when I found this out!

I love my SQ-80, by the way.

Axel F on Ensoniq SQ-80 (With iDrum and Reverb)

Remake of my favorite synth instrumental using my SQ-80, some iDrum samples (Linndrum, Akai XR-10, etc) and some reverb added in Garageband. Enjoy:

Re: Favorite "dirty" synth?

Ensoniq SQ-80. It can sound pretty dirty especially when you mix in a "Grit" waveform.

Re: Ensoniq SQ-80 Floppy Woes

I'll try to format it for DOS on my Mac and then try to use it in the Ensoniq.

Re: Ensoniq SQ-80 Floppy Woes

Hmmm... The disk I'm trying to use reads:

SONY
Double Density
MFD-2DD

Its blue.

EDIT: On the reverse, "DOUBLE SIDED" is printed by a dot matrix printer.

Re: Ensoniq SQ-80 Floppy Woes

I have a few more old 800K mac floppies I can try first... I cann always use SysEx, but I just thought using a floppy to store patches and sequences would be neat in its own right ;)
