Re: have you ever bought the same peice of gear 3 times?

I have a real attachment to the expressivity of these instruments. I have used them for emulative work in mock-orchestral music & also use them for sounds that don't exist in the real world. Even for analog emulations once in a while. One VL-1 is solely dedicated to my live setup & one to my studio ...

Re: Sub 37, CS-60, Minimoog

It may be a 1osc synth, but that hardly disqualifies it from being a very powerful & musical instrument worth consideration. There are many 2osc polys that I would rid the studio of before the CS60. For me the realtime playability of an instrument has so much more utility than the number of included...

Re: Sub 37, CS-60, Minimoog

Many of the early Yamaha's are very expressive instruments. The optical aftertouch on the SY1 & 2 makes them very expressive & musical and the aftertouch on the CS 50 & 60 works almost like velocity control when set up properly. The CS synths can make some very unique sounds with the ring mod and ex...

It's funny, I don't ever remember noticing that there were synths in this song.

Re: Oberheim OB8 vs u-he Diva

The truth is I would never use a synth this way. I would be tweaking the sound continuously using the hardware/software interface to make it more expressive. To me, it is the realtime expressivity that makes an instrument useful to me. I don't know how you make an A/B test for that. As far as this t...

Re: YAMAHA DX7 Up Velocities up to 127

DX7 II suffers from the same issue. The Anatek product was called Pocket Curve. They have been out of business for a while, but you might be able to find a used one. It looks like the MidiSolutions box could do the same thing and more.

Re: YAMAHA DX7 Up Velocities up to 127

Someone, either anatek or midisolutions had an inline box to remedy the DX's velocity issue.
