Re: Keyboard with decent Farfisa organ sound

Most analog Synths don't have enough oscillators to do a truly accurate Farfisa sound. You can get something Farfisa-like so it all depends on how close you need to get. FM Synths are somewhat better because you can get the !6, 8, 4, and 2 2/3 footages found on the Compact Deluxe and Compact Duo. FM...

Re: What was the most expensive Synth you ever bought?

My most expensive Synth is now the Prophet 5 rev. 2. Initially purchased not working for $1500. Restoration was just under $2500. Total cost of about $4000.

Re: Which synth was your first love or lighted your G.A.S. ?

It was a brand new white-face ARP Odyssey. Back then it was pretty much a MiniMoog or an Odyssey. At first I wanted a MiniMoog but the salesman showed me a bunch of things the Odyssey could do that the Moog couldn't. He didn't take into account the awesome sound of the Moog but I went with the Odyss...

Re: already have Ms-10, thinking about Karp and ms20

If Sample & Hold is important you definitely want the Odyssey. The best S & H I have ever come across with several source and routing options. Far better than the Track & Hold found on the MS20 and you don't have to do any complex patching to use it. The Odyssey allows you to apply Lag to S & H whic...

Re: "Wonderful Christmas Time" by Wings Synth?

I'm not as lucky as the rest of you. I have been listening to Wonderful Christmas Time over and over through headphones while I figure out how to play it. Looks like the Juno 60 can get close enough to that sound. Tried to see if the Prophet 5 could do it but there doesn't seem to be any way to modu...

Re: "Wonderful Christmas Time" by Wings Synth?

Never played this song before but just got word yesterday that a band I'm subbing with wants to do it at a Christmas event. I now have to come up with a reasonable facsimile of the sound probably using a Juno 60.

Re: Prophet 5

Serial number on my rev. 2 is 1000-0863. Mine lacks the cassette tape interface. Yours is a bit later so might have it. If the condition of yours is really good and you are close to a tech who is good at working on these you could probably get it fixed and still make money on it. It's a gamble becau...

Re: Prophet 5

Prophet 5's can be very expensive to repair especially if it is a rev. 1 or a rev. 2. These models are also the most valuable and eBay prices are around $7000 for the more common rev. 2. A rev. 3 model may get around $5000 in working condition. For a non-working repairable Prophet in great cosmetic ...

Re: Which synth do you think has the nicest knobs ?

The sliders on the CS70M have a firm high-quality feel unlike those on some Roland Synths which feel looser and more fragile. The knobs on OB series Oberheims also have a solid feel.

Re: Any nice sounding Jupiter 8 demos?

Thomas Dolby used the Jupiter 8 a lot. That's probably it on the opening of "Science".

Tears for Fears were big users. Hear the wide range pitch-bend in action on "Head Over Heels".
