Re: Best synth basslines of all time?

This Isley Brothers groove first caught my attention in 1975. A small bit of it is being used at the beginning of a recent Nepresso commercial and I recognized it right away.

Re: What synth have you bought more than one of?

I bought four Roland S760's several years ago. I had been using an S770 on stage and it was kind of big. The 760 is smaller with twice the memory and loads Akai samples. Don't know why I got four but they were fairly inexpensive and one has a bad display which I paid $75 for. So I have the manuals a...

Re: furniture & stands

Using an RTA Producer Station, a couple of Ultimate Support A-frames, K & M X-stand, Quik-Lok 2-tier X-stand, Roland platform stand, and a computer desk. Also, the top of Vox Continental organs have space for a large Keyboard.

Re: Guidance on vintage synth purchases..

The Prophet 5 was also my dream Synth in the late 70's/early 80's but there was no way I could afford one then. When I finally started making some money the Jupiter 6 had just come out and it cost a lot less than the Prophet so I went for it. I never expected to afford an OB8 but shortly after I got...

Re: Guidance on vintage synth purchases..

Here are updated excerpts of my post from another thread: "Ideally having both the OB8 and Jupiter 6 is very desirable as there is little overlap in the way each one sounds. The OB8 sounds smooth, big, dark with a lot of depth. The 6 is not as big or smooth sounding but has a brighter sound capable ...

Here are the keyboards isolated from "Take on Me". Doesn't really solve the mystery but still interesting to hear.

Re: POST ANY INTERESTING EBAY / CRAIGSLIST LISTINGS HERE!!!

David Gates and the Moog go way back to Bread's 1969 debut album where he played background lines on a few songs. After the first album the Moog was still used occasionally, usually for Bass.

Re: Versatile, warm analogue polysynths?

The Prophet 600 is great sounding and is still probably the lowest-priced dual VCO vintage polySynth. It does lack some versatility due to the absence of a noise generator. If you are into sound effects or percussion sounds this could be a consideration. Also no splitting or layering of sounds. For ...

Re: Shipping Boxes for Keyboards

A few years ago when I needed to ship my Keyboards across the country I went to a store that sold Roland Digital Pianos. They were happy to let me have the DP boxes which would have been tossed out for recycling anyway.

Re: Unusual Electronic Sound in Vintage Recording..

It sounds to me like an Organ with a Leslie speaker and lots of Reverb. In the intro you can hear several low notes being smeared and gradually ascend in pitch. The Organ sound continues being played in a legato fashion overlapping notes in a higher register throughout the song. Since more than one ...

Re: MS-20 legato

If you want more versatility try a Pro-One. It has selectable Single or Multiple Triggering and a Fingered Portamento mode which glides only when you play legato.

The techs at Sequential Circuits were always amazed at how many Prophet 5's still had the factory patches when sent in for service.

Re: New Elka Synthex?

According to Paul Wiffen one last Synthex was cobbled together for Stevie Wonder using parts from three presumably non-working Synthexes. Why would they have to do this if so many parts still existed?
