Re: Scored a Casio CZ-101
[quote="immigrantboy"]The only functional problem it has is when the pitchbend wheel is up all the way, the output becomes a really distorted, high pitched squeal. Not sure why, maybe the pot needs to be cleaned? /quote] The pitch bend glitch is usually due to the CZ not being powered up for some ti...

How about the Moog Opus 3. That has a cheezy organ section and it's a single oscillator synth with divide down. Plus it can do some other cool sounds. I gave it a shot tonight. A little bit of oscillator vibrato helps get that Combo Organ sound. Sound of Moog Opus 3 as Combo Organ http://mysite.veri...

Re: New Moog Modular?
What would be the problem with Moog going into the modular business again by simply taking their moogerfooger line and mounting them into a modular form instead of pedal? Am I the only one who would want this? Moog did the tough part and made actual circuits. The easy part would be to just make a n...

The Bass Station Rack should do to job. Also the Super BS Rack? Just set the MIDI chanels seperate for the BS and CV out for them to work independently. Has settings for V/Oct or Hz/Oct and Gate or S-trig in the menus. Can download the manual here: http://www.novationmusic.com/support/user_guides/ba...

Like searching for the Holy Grail of Moog sounding mono synths? Something that can get the sounds of the Mini, but has that extra mean and nasty edge that takes the Moog sound to the next level? A Minimoog on steroids? I have had a Mini since 1974, and never have I been without one, even through the...

Can you describe what a "leaf switch" is exactly? I know there is the one cable coming off the keyboard... what party would I clean? the metal prongs, or the contacts inside the connector (oh wait, are those the leaf connectors?) sounds promising tho... Basicly the voltage from the keyboard first i...

If everything is wired correctly, could be either the keyboard has one of the J wires stuck on. Or the slave jack has a bad connection. The keyboard voltage goes first to this jack, through a leaf swith located on the jack. This has caused me problems with my Cat before. Cleaning the leaf switch sur...

I have a few of these iPD Casios. You can edit from the small display, but using an editor like Sound Diver is best. I think there is a freeware editor out there, but it was a little buggy. At first sending and receiving patches/edits is a PITA. You have to enable SYSEX via a menu every time you pow...

Damn! Nice setup! What else you got? That setup was actually part of a live rig used in the "Back In Time 2 Concert" done live on the air back in October 2006. Every year when the clocks get set back to end daylight savings time, we have done a live show on WXPN in Philly. We start the hour long sh...

CS-15 owner here. I just LOVE this synth! Hey Don, Thanks so much for the CS-15 downloads. Mine needed a little work, so tonight I opened it up and fixed a few things, since I now had a service manual! A few weeks ago it developed a glitch in the Brilliance slider, and lucky it was only a loose sol...

Re: Restoring and customizing old gear
Do these projects ever work? Any successes out there? Hey Tom, I have had many success stories modding and repairing old synths. Back in the good days of Ebay, you could find broken synths for next to nothing. I picked up a Elka Rapsody 490 for 49 bucks. That is a dollar a key! The problem was the ...

Listening to the Moog IP sequence, and thinking of replicating it on my modular. The only thing I wonder is how did you get the steps to repeat 8 times before switching to next row? For that demo I used an Encore Universal Event Generator as a count to eight gate. Took the gate out on step 1 to adv...

Awesome! Gimme more... :D Glad everyone liked that. I was very suprised at how good that combination worked, with an Oberheim SEM controlled by the SCI Pro~One arpegiator. Quite a bit of fun to play too! It is just the arpegiator on a simple up pattern with the repeat switch on to trigger the SEM. ...

Those extra sockets on the osc board could be for the EML Poly-box. That used a small keyboard with some type of memory, instead of the switches found on the SynKey. http://www.vintagesynth.com/eml/polybox.jpg In a letter from EML president Dale Blake dated Oct.18,1977: "The Synkey oscillator is ava...
