Re: synths as investment

Car collectors are abundant out here, where I am. Case in point, there are more HemiCudas in AZ than any other state in the country. And guess what, you would never know it, because most of them are hidden away in collector's garages and never actually driven on the street.. That's funny! My brothe...

Re: will the mini brute replace the pro one/sh 101

No, I don't think you can do the "wave wrapping" thing the Metalizer does to the triangle wave with a 1969 modular, can you? Not exactly, but have a Harold Bode type discrete ring modulator module that has those germanium diodes and large 20-20,000Hz transformers. You would be surprised at how many...

Re: will the mini brute replace the pro one/sh 101

I think it is written in stone on some mountain top "No synthesizer is a replacement for another". Having said that, they all have their particular quirks that can only be compaired by setting them side by side and playing/experimenting with them. For instance, on paper they all have somewhat ...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

This is a unique time in synth developement where manufactures put out info about a prototype, and probably listen to any good suggestions that would be easy to implement. I would bet Korg is listening. The main circuit board will more than likely be a single SMT board. While something like this wou...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

One of the nice extras the original late model Odyssey had was the CV and gate/trigger outs. The Odyssey had a decent CV out that summed the glide/portamento, 2 octave up/down transpose switch, and the pitch bend/vibrato from the PPC pads. Along with the gate and trigger out, made for an interesting...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

Both the ARP Odyssey and Korg MS-20 have patch memory. It is just the single last patch you programed. They do not loose the patch just because you power it down. They are not digital. It is easy to get a MIDI to CV and assign each analog synth it's own MIDI channel. Then you can just push a button ...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

Perhaps since Korg is making a faithfull reproduction Odyssey, they will include the "Instant Odyssey" patch overlays. There were about 20 or so overlays with patches and a few blanks to make your own. I could fill a page with past experiences of changing patches on a Minimoog in live settings durin...

Re: Will Dave Smith reissue the Pro One?

Acording to the Wine Country web site, the Sequential Circuits repair authority: The trademarks PROPHET®, SEQUENTIAL, SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS are trademarks of Yamaha Corporation used by Wine Country Productions, Inc. under license. So perhaps still owned by Yamaha. I don't see the CEM or SSM chips bein...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

That picture is just an original MS-20. It's actually the startup image on the iMS-20 iPad app. Good catch! That would be the original. Tough to really guage the size of an object in a photo like that. Those yellow patch cords look like the ones issued with the mini version. Forgot Korg did a virtu...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

There was a photo circulating, though I can't recall the source, that looked like the MS-20 mini with an SQ-10. http://i60.tinypic.com/2ueo2n7.jpg The Odyssey reissue makes sense as it can be done on a single SMT board, with available parts. The Odyssey did not have any special or rare chips that co...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

Have to brighten up the photo a bit to see the extra filter switch. Up at the top next to the resonance slider.

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

The photo on the Korg website looks to have an extra slide switch by the filter controls. Perhaps filter types are selectable between the 2 pole and 4 pole ARP filters.
Probably a single large SMT circuit board. Great idea from Korg!

Re: Moog Sub 37

I was able to find the original Roland brochure where they claim to have made up the term "Paraphonic" and what it means. Nothing to do with a single filter, but mulit layered tones, and perhaps the seperate outputs for each section. http://mysite.verizon.net/vze6s1hi/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderp...

Re: Finaly a new poliphonic Moog or not?!

What can be done, CZ? Another term has risen up in lo these many decades to describe layered tones. :( No other term describes the multitude of synthesizers whose oscillators are directed through a single filter/amp combination. Well, language meanings do change over the years. If we were in 1974 a...

Re: Moog Sub 37, finaly a new poliphonic Moog?

Here is a Youtube vid where Paraphonic is described as a Roland shortened version of "parallel phonic". That makes sense too for something playing multi layered sound sources.
