Re: What is fm synthesis like on other synths (non yamaha dx

So how would a knobby interface actually work on an early DX type synth? On the CZ series, depending on the model, there is very little real-time control of parameters via MIDI. Even with a knob per function controller, you would need to keep sending the entire patch to make changes. The front panel...

Re: What is fm synthesis like on other synths (non yamaha dx

Why didn't the dx's have a filter? The Synclavier II has CV outputs on the back for interfacing with external CV filters. The outputs could track at 1 volt per octave, and the CV's were part of the saved patch. Pic of the many CV outputs on back of the Sync 2: http://mysite.verizon.net/vze6s1hi/sit...

Re: What is fm synthesis like on other synths (non yamaha dx

Through-zero will mainly help to stay in tune, no matter how much modulation you throw at the osc... With non-through-zero you might have to retune after dialling in the sound you want, since audio rate modulation "shifts" the frequency of the modulated osc. Thanks for that explanation! That makes ...

With previous models like the ProMars, Jupiter, Saturn, the next logical model would be the Uranus.

Re: What is fm synthesis like on other synths (non yamaha dx

You wanna hear DIFFERENT sounding examples of FM synthesis... check out demos of the Synclavier - it uses 2 operator setup... but the carrier is additive and you can basically make any waveform you want with it... and then freq. mod. it with a sine. I was going to mention the Synclavier II that pre...

Re: Monosynth + no patch memory = ???

I use all types of documentation for patches I have made on various analog monosynths. From the old school pen/paper on a patch sheet, to taking photographs. No reason to discard all that work, although some complex feedback patches are non-repeatable. Can't see where it does not help to learn your ...

Re: Modding moog sonic 6

Please elaborate--about the tuning, that is. Sure, the quick answer is you not only tune the pitch like most oscillators, but you also want to tune the scale. So there are two tunings on the Moog 901's you need to adjust. A longer explination and proceedure: First thing you need to remember or be a...

Re: Modding moog sonic 6

It may say "Sonic 6" on the serial plate, but it says "Sonic Six" on the device. And, it says "Sonic Six" on the manuals. And, it says "Sonic Six" on all of the literature that I have access to that you don't. Just bustin' your chops AG. :) I have a theory about that "Model Sonic 6" serial tag. Bac...

Re: Modding moog sonic 6

CZ - I see what you're saying about just using the pitch input jack. So are you suggesting wiring ONLY the pin 6 for gate and pin 2 for ground on the accessory jack? That's really a matter of personal preference. The gate is the only extra connection that is not on a standard type socket. Just want...

Re: Some thoughts on the Arp Odyssey

Wow, CZ! Very nice! Thanks! That duo-phonic feature is really unique and very expressive. I remember back in the day hearing negative comments about it not having a proper hold on the second note. But the way it is implemented it is very controllable. I like it, and it sets the Odyssey apart from m...

Re: Some thoughts on the Arp Odyssey

Hey, those Billy Currie solos sounded great. Did not know that was an Odyssey, thanks for posting! All this talk of Odyssey and no mention of the duo-phonic keyboard? Funny story, before I got my first Oddy I had two Avatars. Now you would think the Avatars would sound the same. Same oscillator boar...

Re: Modding moog sonic 6

Does anyone have a link to mod a Sonic 6 to a Sonic Six? A difficult modification, not recommended for beginers. First you will need a circa 1970's Dymo labeler like Moog used. Finding the correct shade of vintage blue 1/4" tape can be difficult as those usually go for inflated prices on Ebay due t...

Re: Modding moog sonic 6

So just to clarify, for external cv/gate control, you just need to wire pin 4 (for pitch), pin 6 (for gate), and pin 2 for ground? Do you even need ground? Sorry, eletronics neophyte here! :? The pitch input is either/or but not both. You can either use the normalized pitch input jack on the panel,...

Re: Modding moog sonic 6

Always thought it was a Sonic VI, since the original MuSonics version was the Sonic V. :dontknow: Although it says Model: Sonic 6 on the serial plate. http://mysite.verizon.net/vze6s1hi/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/sonic6ser.jpg Had to mod my Sonic 6 because it was one of the early ones wi...

Re: How Do I Name a Patch on CZ-3000?

All I get when I save the patch is: *MEMORY* A-1 That's all you get from those early digitals from Casio. Seems like it should, as it does have a two row LCD display, and the ROM presets have names. The only CZ that could save patch names was the CZ-1. Really typical of the early days of patch memo...
