Re: just got a DX7. Suggestions on learning or patches?

Just as a side question I know that lots of my favorite bands like talking heads, eno and the cure uses a DX7, but does anyone know of specific songs where the synth was used just so that I could get a feel for what it really does in action? I'm pretty sure that The Cure's Head On The Door has a lo...

This is good program to consider if you want to program your own patches or even to just play around with editing patches:

Re: Which Analog Polys feature S&H/Random LFO setting

On some of Roland's later synths they make a distinction between S&H and Random. Others may do this too.

(Skip forward one page to pg 60 - Roland describes their Random LFO as being smoother than their S&H LFO.)

gimme a moment and I will fetch a video for you.

Edit: Here is the general idea

He brings up the point that I find interesting, that the TB303 was a flop when released. (ca.1982?)

Re: Rescued a Casio CZ3000

Scratch that. The Solaris arrived on Monday. The CZ3000 is a mere toy in comparison. You can still make some unique sounds with a CZ, like no other synth can. So it will always have it's place. I get the best guitar lead sounds from mine and do not have another synth that can take it's place. Here i...

I think it had a page for additive synthesis but, admittedly, that's not what it's generally known for.

Re: synthesizers that made impact in electronic music produc

Fairlight CMI: It was the first workstation (AFAIK). The Fairlight had become such an iconic symbol of vanguard electronic music production by the mid-80's that Phil Collins was compelled to add that "no Fairlight was used" in the liner notes of No Jacket Required. What a rebel!

Re: Cheap alternatives to VOX or FARFISA?

Take this with a grain of salt (as I often say) since my only experience with the real things is from what I've heard on recordings but, having said that, I think those samples on E-Mu's Techno Synth Construction Yard ROM are good. (...also available in the Orbit 3 module.)

Re: a teenage boy's perspective on vintage synthesizers

I know this is a little OT but...speaking of VH, it seems to me that the favorite album of hardcore VH fans, almost without exception, is usually one of two albums: Van Halen (their debut release) or Fair Warning. (My vote is for Fair Warning.) yea, but what about "ain't talkin 'bout love?" That's ...
