Re: Synth and pedal issue

Is the pedal connected directly to a mixer? If so, it sounds like it's the output of the pedal that is quiet. A line level signal from a mixer or synth would be much higher in db strength than instrument level and would need to be attenuated at the effect device's input. Generally I use a passive DI...

Re: Synth outputs... balanced or unbalanced?

Didn't see a mention of the ARP Odyssey mk III and Korg remake, which has XLR balanced for its high level output. I find this output is preferred unless I want a guitar pedal inserted.

Re: SH101 Strange Noise bleed

I had a similar problem during modding and it turned out to be a disconnected common(ground) wire from the main board to the metal base of the keyboard. Might still want to take it to a tech if you don't know anything about servicing and repair.

Re: Roland's Jupiter-8, Juno-106 and System-8 plugins availa

Spectrasonics and Korg Legacy licensed usage of the older UVI engine. There's a rendering bug associated with it, and it creates stuck notes periodically. I read some rumors they are developing a full D-50 VST. I'm holding out for that one. It's the only one I would actually get onboard this "deal" ...

Re: Roland's Jupiter-8, Juno-106 and System-8 plugins availa

Roland cracks me up. They look over at Korg's Legacy Collection on the cr@ppy UVI engine 13 years ago and say "We can do better". They spend 10 years building a fancy dongle disguised as a controller during R&D and call it System 1. They churn out more simulations over the next 2 years but still wan...

Re: Behringer's Mini Moog

I am frankly curious to play one just to see what they can pull off at that price point. But mostly I see it as an opportunity to get a good deal on a used Sub 37 when someone sells theirs to get 3 of these things to poly chain them. I've heard 4 poly-chained slim phatty's and found it underwhelming.

Re: Battle of the junos: alpha juno 1 vs juno 60

Wow another flashback post, when I still had a JP8. Again, they designed the look of the Alphas to mimic the DX7, and the sound design was very likely to sound closer to a DX7 too - super clean. Not coincidentally, the Alpha/MKS50 were the last analog polys created by Roland before they switched who...

Re: Portable DAW upgrade from 10 yr old laptop

when I had the crackling issue then only MOTU midi interface was in use and m-Audio with ASIO buffer 336 samples (with 800..1056 samples was it fixed when I had just 3..4 MIDI tracks). MIDI driving makes a system hog? Sounds like the MotU driver is at fault, but I couldn't begin to speculate why. U...

Re: Portable DAW upgrade from 10 yr old laptop

I think I can steer this thread back on topic while commenting, so bear with me: setup 1: ASUS P5P800S 3.4GHz CPU single core, 1GB RAM, WIN98SE, MOTU Midi Express XT, SB Live, M-audio Delta 1010LT running Cubase VST setup 2: same hardware as 1, but running Madtracker 2.6.1 setup 3: 486 100MHz, 32MB ...

Re: Portable DAW upgrade from 10 yr old laptop

I'm also finding it hard to justify upgrading now, the more I think about it. Once you get a stable system and workflow, it's a precious thing. Almost am glad they canceled my laptop order. Funny to mention a legacy Cubase setup, I still have an old Atari ST with 1 MB of memory, a monochrome monitor...

Re: Portable DAW upgrade from 10 yr old laptop

I found Fairlight sample library which was in a Kontakt format, but DirectWave does not recognize that at all, even if it claims to be able to play .NKI extension instruments. Requirement what I need is support for win98SE and less than 1GB RAM. Afraid I can't help, as I have Kontakt 4, and even th...

Re: Andromeda A6 or Jupiter 8?

Do you think if I get an A6 it will sate my Jupiter 8 desires? I know they're not the same thing, but I am fine with *close enough*. Probably not, if the character of the JP8 is what you really want. I owned one about 7 years ago and can verify that it costs as much as it does for good reason: Mass...

Re: Portable DAW upgrade from 10 yr old laptop

This is almost a wasted post, but my laptop order got cancelled(not by me), so I won't be updating this thread now, and most likely will at some point build a desktop DAW replacement instead, so jxalex called it correctly. Further research has shown that if your DAW software supports process multi-t...

Re: Can anyone identify this acid synth? Genaside 2

I'm going with one of the clones. Good luck figuring out which one. When my 303 has this tone where accent is down, it sounds more uh, throaty, if that makes any sense. And yes the one in the clip sounds cleaner. Why is the 303 is so expensive? So small a box, and the price is just ridiculous, 2.5-3...

Re: EDIT* thoughts on AKAI 60

Once somebody upgrades the OS/Firmware for CC control of parameters and a few other bells and whistles this thing will have a new life like the P600 and JX3P are enjoying... in the meantime, scoop them up for under $700 when you can. If you can show me how $700 or higher can ever be justified with ...
