Re: How many hardware synths do you own?

12 - There's 10 in my gear list, plus a Kurzweil K2vx workstation and a Korg X5DR half-rack rompler module. Only 5 get any use now. There will never be a modular. There may never be another polyphonic either. This hobby is just too expensive and I don't have the space anymore. 10 synths sold - Jupi...

Re: What was the most expensive Synth you ever bought?

Jupiter 8 with MD-8 interface and flight case: $3600 in late 2007
Sold less than 3 years later for about the same.(mentioned on pg 4 but seems a bargain now)

Most for a new item was $2200 for a Kurzweil K2vx(an expanded K2000) in 1997. Now worth maybe 1/10th of that.

Re: so Juno 60's are about £1000 now? what the h**l?!

I don't really have much more to add regarding putting heads together and starting a business to design and build synthesizers, as it's all just too much to get my head around. But it made me think of the recent endeavor by a single individual to design and build the Futuresonus Parva. I realize thi...

Re: so Juno 60's are about £1000 now? what the h**l?!

well, my synths are not anymore as they were in original factory configuration...Even my most expensive item is modified... Similar situation here. All I have now is newer analogues and older modified ones. I did have an offer on my CS-15 recently, though. Only fell through because of shipping cost...

Re: so Juno 60's are about £1000 now? what the h**l?!

THIS is very bizzarre if someone says that "(I love it, but) cannot afford that synth any longer", just after he will see that his synthesizer price went up... I meant only someone buying an already high-priced and in-demand synth, not selling. But I should propose my own experience into the idea o...

Re: so Juno 60's are about £1000 now? what the h**l?!

I used to be furious about the vintage synth market price increases that have steadily risen since around 2007. I feared they would all end up in the hands of collectors or wealthy artists of questionable talent. Then I had the epiphany that the high-demand synths on the market(which are still fully...

Re: Synths on New Order's Techinque

Yeah, I definitely hear some 303 on Fine Time! Speaking of Fine Time, i don't think the synth bass was a DX5 or other fm synth, it seems much more analog no? To me the main basslines on the electronic tracks of "Technique" all sound like FM synthesis. The liquidy bassline playing over top of the ma...

Re: Roland SH-101 vs. ...? Worth it?

However... are there synths that do the SH-101's mono thing better...? Practically any other previous Roland SH synth, unless you want that super squelchy, rude and weedy character that the 101 excels at. You can get the punchy bass with plenty of other cheaper options. 1. Lead sounds (though not m...

Re: What is the worst thing that you have ever done to a syn

Had a Pro~One whose filter stopped self-oscillating. I went poking around the circuit board with the power on not knowing what the h**l I was doing and fried 3 expensive chips. I did resocket and replace them back to a working synth though.

Re: Korg MS-20 or Maxikorg 800DV?

Also keep in mind, you can get "the" sound from a 700s, which is cheaper and more common. According to the C Y Kong mod page , the 800dv is actually more like two Korg 770's. The Minikorg 700 and 700S have a little bit older generation circuit design, and I think they sound more "vintage" than the ...

Re: Synthesizers and their (true) sound

Why would you consider effects not being a part of the synth engine? If it's there, it's there, let's use it. And use it fully, without considering it an add-on that's purely there for cheaters. My take on this is if you could turn off the included effects section and replace them with external eff...

Re: Synthesizers and their (true) sound

I tend to put effects into two categories: Parallel and Serial(aka. Insert) In the case of parallel, the perceived sound is the balance and interaction between the wet and dry signals, so this isn't really synthesis, it's mixing. It's additive. To "liven them up" is likely the goal of the combined t...

Re: Roland Jupiter 8

I gotta agree with Stabby from a statistical point of view. Not to mention, my JP8 was purchased by someone who had no music career either, just a passive interest in buying up the vintage classics. The JP8 certainly is ideal for touring performers. There just weren't enough of them made. It's not a...
