Re: Prophet 6

I wasn't expecting that, I'll be very interested if the price isn't stupid. Hopefully in the same region as a prophet 08. I much prefer this (and Moog's) take on the old instrument to the MS20 / Odyssey mini versions. This and the new odyssey both sound pretty damn good to me from the first demos. ...

Re: Why don't new synths have 'that vintage sound?'

I don't think the goal is drop specs and utilize less than great components. I don't even think the goal is to capture the 'vintage' analog sound. What interests me, though, is that when manafacturers have literally tried to make an exact copy, such as in the case of the MS20, the sound is very clo...

Re: Why don't new synths have 'that vintage sound?'

What I find amazing is not how far, but how near some of the very latest analogs are. The MS20-mini is about 95% there, for instance, I would say. If the interesting comments hideawaystudio makes are right, maybe we're only a few opamp and noise changes away from nearly 100% there in future.

Re: 2015 NAMM

As I was saying in the Rhythm Wolf thread, I just have no interest so far this year. Not going and not upset about that. Just seems like a real "meh" kind of year right now. I hope something comes out that piques my interest, but I'm not expecting anything - anything at all. I sure hope I'm wrong. ...

Re: ELKA ressurected!

Hm...well, the Synthex was a one-off project, Elka just bought into the idea of a single guy and realised his polysynth dream. Then slammed the Elka logo on it. They were an organ manufacturer, not a polysynth giant..and the Synthex kind of bombed too, being released just as the new digital era arr...

Re: New hybrid digital/analogue Roland Synth?

The grassroots interest in analog goes even further back to the turn of the 1990s, creating the whole virtual analog wave afterwards. What hasn't happened for 30 years is for true-analog to be at the centre of the mainstream, as it is moving to now. Another kind of demonstration of that is used anal...

Re: New hybrid digital/analogue Roland Synth?

Don't forget though, that before the mid-late 2000s, forums were not only full of people predicting that analog would never hit the mass market again, but also people angrily advising that VA or software could be indistinguishable from analog, or actually better. That reflected the fact that enthusi...

Re: New hybrid digital/analogue Roland Synth?

Before the prophet 08 range, the little phatty was in many cases the only analog large retailers stocked, particularly in the US. After 2007, outlets like guitarcenter started stocking large amounts of tetras, mophos, mopho x4s, p8s, p8 racks, etc. That's what built the youth analog market that Art...
