Re: Any need for VA gear still??
I think it will continue to fill a need for some time to come. Look at how much all those hipsters and EMO brats love the MicroKorg. Plus, watching some of the videos Jexus has put up has really shown what these things are truly capable of. Just my view of it, anyway.

Re: My D-50 bank soon finished (with demo)
Wow, that's some truly amazing stuff. After listening to this, it's hard to believe that people are still vehemently arguing the merits of analog vs. digital. Further proof of how limitless the possibilities can be with a good piece of gear.

Re: Sooo I sold a bunch, and ended up buying an Alesis ion..
you got an Ion? nifty... i like my micron but it needs knobs :D Hey Ashe, have you tried the BCR-2000 yet? I seem to recall reading that it "plays nice" with the Micron pretty well. No, keep waffling over geting a BCR or a Remote Zero... and i could use more than one BCR, too lol Ah, ok. I scored a...

Re: Blue Monday Prophet 5 question
Cool, I'll have to try that. Thanks! I guess I thought it was the LFO because of how quickly it was being modulated. Definitely some filter sweepage going on there, as well.Roby31 wrote:I always thought of it as a pretty narrow pulse wave arpeggio, if that's the sound you're referring to.

Re: Blue Monday Prophet 5 question
but things happened differently in America... especially in regions outside of New York and L.A. . "Boy, we don't take kindly to that ther' faggy, buzzy electric noise s**t 'round these here parts. Why, if you ain't got no fiddle player or steel geetar in your band, ya'll are fixin' to get lynched!"

Re: Blue Monday Prophet 5 question
This track was ground breaking when released!! It was far from cheese and also far from Disco!! Im sure they were using a Prophet 5 and im sure i remember an Emulater too Yeah, definitely an Emulator for the choir sounds. I can fake that with the M1. Basically, this is more an experiment than anyth...

Re: What was THE DX7 sound of the 80's?
That is correct. Fulltines didn't appear until the mk II DX7's came out. Before then, "the" DX7 rhodes sound was a softer patch known as "E-Piano 1" A good (or bad, depending on your POV) example, is Who's Holding Donna Now? by DeBarge (mid 80's?) The best (worst? hehe) example, though, has to be "...

Blue Monday Prophet 5 question
Hi all. Long time, no post. I was wondering if anyone had any pointers on getting that one Pro5 sound from Blue Monday. You know, the really cheesey so-80s-it-hurts thing. I assume it has something to do with the LFO, but I can't quite seem to get it to come out right. I'm using the Synth01 VST plug...

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths
Another one: I bought an M1 back in November. I was telling a coworker of mine, who listens to all sorts of dance music, New Wave Revival, etc.., about it. She then asked me. "What's a synthesizer?"

Re: What will be the best synthesizer....
Hey how about we do a TB-303 petition and a couple of other things? seriously if people find out about it on other forums, youtube and just about all over the net plus it could get mentioned in magazines...if it gets more than 10,000 responses do you reckon they would do it? Highly unlikely that it...

Still not quite as bad as the dude who keeps bragging about unloading broken synths on Ebay. I love how infested with morons the internet has become.

Re: Favorite synth sounds
Too many to mention them all, but here are a few of my favorites: The OB strings on "Subdivisions" by Rush "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" Pretty much all the sounds Rick was using on that one were just breathtaking. "All My Love" by Zep, especially the solo. The choir sound during the breakdown of "Du...

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths
Not sure if this counts, but: Myself, after picking up Candyass by Orgy. "Why don't they list the keyboard player in the liner notes?" Obviously, I had no idea what a guitar synth was at the time.

USB/Midi controller recommendations needed.
Hi all, hope this doesn't sound like a dumb newbie question. I'm planning on putting together a home rig in the near future. I'm planning on starting with Reason on the software side of things. As far as hardware synths, I'm wanting to get a Yamaha SY-77 or 99, as I've had some experience with the 7...
