Re: Best Synth Programming Interface Ever?
CS_TBL made a good point, greater complexity of the instrument makes it more difficult to offer an efficient UI. Some favorites of mine: Ensoniq ESQ-1: Yes, it's a parameter programming interface but there are no menus ...you just press the button for the block of interest and all available paramet...

Waldorf Pulse Plus and Novation Bass Station Rack come to mind.'
Edit: Can the "Sequencer CV Out" on a Prophet 5 be used as a regular CV?

Re: cz3000
I have been pondering picking up a korg microkorg as a 2nd, any thoughts You can do quite a bit with it, since it's basically an MS2000 in a smaller package. The mod matrix is especially useful. The interface can be a tad frustrating at times, especially if you don't have the manual at arm's reach....

Re: Moog IIIc on Toronto Craigslist. BUT...
Well, since this thread is now well and truly derailed, I'll share with you all what I found in a hidey hole in my next door neighbour's kitchen earlier in the year - probably it has been there since about 1980: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/BlackRiverFalls/Ajax.jpg I love how sparse the l...

Re: cz3000
Sorry, virtual analog. So basically a digital synthesizer that emulates the way an analog synthesizer works. Depending on the va it would be a much cheaper route to go than buying the old oberheim eddie van halen used. I would think something like an esoniq esq-1 or a korg ms-2000 could do the job....

Sounds damn good for <$800. Also love how they're using an ASR to control it. I use the 88 key version as a master controller for my hardware synths as well.ColorForm2113 wrote:they just posted this preview

Re: just got a DX7. Suggestions on learning or patches?
To be honest, if The Complete DX7 Massey book is really selling for $100, I'd pass on it. There should be plenty of info on the net, other DX7 books, and the manual to get you going. It was a book that I found very useful back then, but that's a lot of dosh for a book! +1 Just go with the PDF copy,...

Re: cz3000
Hmm. Not sure if you can do that on a CZ or not. Does it have a square wave option on the LFO? Because that's what it sounds like Eddie was using on his OB-8.extremezl wrote:dies anyone know how to make the helicopter sound like vanhalen has in why cant this be love? or a patch for it? any patches welcome

He's probably thinking the VZ-1, though the song predates it by 4 years.calyx93 wrote:VL-1? I don't think so - that's a monophonic little toy.philip wrote:DX7 or CASIO VL-1

Ah, yes. Glitch City can be a very fun place to visit.madtheory wrote: A corrupted RA3 will contain randomised patches with settings outside of what you can dial in on the synth's front panel , always fun.

Re: Controlling the Waldorf Microwave
No time to look at the manual atm, but I doubt that controller has the ability to do sysex value changes... I Googled the manual. It can be done via the included software editor. Wow..yeah, look at that - sysex string values! Not bad. The only other keyboard controller that I know of that does that...

Re: just got a DX7. Suggestions on learning or patches?
Just as a side question I know that lots of my favorite bands like talking heads, eno and the cure uses a DX7, but does anyone know of specific songs where the synth was used just so that I could get a feel for what it really does in action? Would that have been the DX7 all over the cures disintegr...

Re: Controlling the Waldorf Microwave
Yea, this sounds like a massive pain in the a*s. I might have to go with the Mirowave XT. Either that or stick with my original plan and get an Ensoniq TS-10. Which part? The Sys-Ex programming, I take it? It's really not that bad if you've got a good editor. If I was in your position, I'd look int...
