Re: Wich sampler will you buy without hesitate
Call me old fashioned: the sound is the main thing. I'm not interested in plenty of memory, tonnes of features, or even the interface - if I like the sound, I'll get over all that. Other than that, price and scarcity might stop me. Otherwise, I'd have a Fairlight by now. I agree, although there is ...

Re: Portable Production: DS-10, iPod Touch, Netbook, Akai MPC500
I have a hacked PSP with PSP Rhythm or Little Piggy Tracker with about 7.5gb of samples per memory stick. I was on the road a few times a week for the past year and this thing kept me busy, along with the PSP games.

Re: need help buying a new synth
if you plan to control VSTi with a workstation, you'll be inside a DAW anyway, so why not just hit record? Regardless of what you intend to do, maybe a Roland W 30. All the early Prodigy stuff was a single W 30, also early Photek used to use it exclusively. Not a keyboard, but a Yamaha RM1x is a gre...

Re: 1u or 2u synth/rompler to fill the space
What have you got effect-wise? A Kurzweil Rumour or Mangler or a TC Fireworx (if you found a bargain) could add a whole lot of new dimensions to the synths you already have. If you've already got a good array of fx I reckon the K5000 would add the most to your setup. Ensoniq DP/4+ Alesis Quadraveb ...

Re: 1u or 2u synth/rompler to fill the space
How about a Waldorf Microwave I or a Kawai K5000r? Both seem quite exotic and different from what you have, probably more distinct than the JD990. The previous suggestions (FS1r and Matrix 1000) seem quite nice too. I used to have a matrix 1000. It sounded great, but I eventually sold it. The 106 p...

1u or 2u synth/rompler to fill the space
I got 2u space to fill in my rack. I got about 500usd. Having a hard time figuring out what is 2u and would compliment my setup. Don't mind menu diving to an extent, but would like a few knobs. I was thinking maybe a Roland JD990, but the XS, 106, and Virus already do great pads. Any advice is appre...

Re: Yamaha Motif XS or Kurzweil PC3?
I've just done some reading and I guess the Yamaha VST editor does not currently work with my DAW(Reaper). I don't want to have to install Cubase just to use it. Just seems like a round about way to edit. I already ReWire Renoise into Reaper sometimes. If I can edit manually from the Motif front pan...

Re: Yamaha Motif XS or Kurzweil PC3?
I was dead set on the Kurzweil, it just sounds gorgeous, but now I think I may be leaning toward the Motif. I don't use Cubase, but I've read the Motif can be edited as a VST, so it should work with most DAWs. I suppose I'll mull over it until I can find a chance to test drive both these machines.

Yamaha Motif XS or Kurzweil PC3?
I want it mainly for good bread and butter sounds like pianos, eps, strings/pads, brass, woodwinds. Also as a master keyboard controller. No need for the fx or workstation sequencer. I have an RS7000, so I am familiar with AWM2 engine and Yamaha architecture, I just need better quality and immediate...

Yamaha RS7000
The midi patchbay is a snap one you get used to the controls. I also use Midiquest on my PC to have deeper control over some synths and fx. For my Akai S3000XL, I use Millenium Pro, it makes keygroups and drum maps a breeze.
