D50 Soundtrack for DX7

I created this approximation of the D50's Soundtrack patch the other day and have modified it to include the 5th note without having recourse to layering. It'll work on all incarnations of the DX7. http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y507/gcoudert/6F8701F3-6BF6-43AA-B4D5-5E4320C3553C_zpskoglr3io.jpg

Re: 'Take On Me' instrumental cover (a-ha)

The bass sound was sampled from a DX7 I used to own. The other sounds were created on the Roland Fantom X7.

Re: 2 tier stands. Which would you put in top?

But then he might not see the DX7's display and buttons! Seriously, it depends on the space you have. Personally, I would place them side by side. I guess most people would prefer the lead synth on the upper tier. If you ever play piano-type sounds, they'll be more comfortable to play on the lower t...

Re: Dead or Alive 80's delayed sound

When you say gate type, do you mean with a sharp release? I'll give that a try. I think the tone might be somewhere in between a standard saw wave and a brass tone with some modulation as well. I'm still tweaking it to try to get the tone closer. Yes, that's what I mean. Now shorten the gate (hold)...

Re: Dead or Alive 80's delayed sound

Instead of using a decaying sound with a sharp attack, i.e. bell-like, try a gate-type envelope with a slightly softer attack and adjust the gate time (note duration / time between note on and note off) in your sequencer.

Re: DX7 or DX7II? Another comparison thread.

The TX802 hasn't got a unison mode as such but it can easily be replicated by allocating the same 'voice' (patch) to all eight generators and detuning them. And you still get 2-voice polyphony! Just bought one with a RAM4 cartridge.

Re: DX7 sound... Can't find it anywhere - Help?

Here are my 4 banks. Bank 1 is from my previous DX7. Banks 2 and 3 were compiled recently from online patch banks. Bank 4 is a 'best of' collection of ROM cartridge patches from the DX7 Mk 1.

Re: DX7 sound... Can't find it anywhere - Help?

Oh, yes, the amazing Kronos. That'll explain why you couldn't load my sysex file. The Kronos will only load complete banks, not single voices. I discovered Dexed recently. It is pretty amazing as a synth, although my DX7 patch banks sound VERY different when imported into it than they do on the TX80...

Re: DX7 sound... Can't find it anywhere - Help?

To increase the 'chiffiness' of the patch, increase the attack (parameter R1) of all three modulators (operators 4, 5 and 6) by decreasing its value to about 65. Leave the carrier (operator 3) as it is. You will notice that this patch only uses 4 operators, as operators 1 and 2 are turned off (zero ...

OK, try this. It's in the right ball park if you layer, detune and add effects.

Re: DX7 sound... Can't find it anywhere - Help?

It's an edited version of a patch I have in my TX802. Because, like you I suppose, I built my patch banks from dozens of other banks, finding the original patch would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Besides, I have changed the original patch names! I will write down the parameters on a p...

Re: DX7 sound... Can't find it anywhere - Help?

I have one that's close-ish. You should be able to edit it to perfection. I will export it as sysex and post a link later.
