Re: Computer Music Magazine 30: The best free plug-ins ever

Four of my favorite freeware soft synths automat - Great 3 OSC synth along the lines of Vangurd. http://www.alphakanal.de:4356/ Cheeze Machine - Wonderful little string machine, not as powerful as VSM, but has some body to the sound. http://bigtick.pastnotecut.org/index.php Crystal - A sweet digital...

Re: Best Reverb Plug-in?

I second Reverence. Audio Damage makes some really sweet plug ins. There all really cheap ($29-49) and they are just superb. All very original and unique. What is cool about Reverence is that it's modeled off the old 80's digital "plate" reverbs. Your able to add just a little bit of presence or jus...

Re: Novation V-Station synth, Yay or Nay?

Thanks everyone. Seems to be kind of what I was thinking. I started demoing predator a few days ago and really like that guy. I have been running Kombinat as an insert and my god that thing is money. So I think I have made up my mind. Even though I have the V station sitting here on the desk I know ...

Re: Novation V-Station synth, Yay or Nay?

Yeah that is kind of what I thought. Just comparing the V Station to Automat. Automat just seems more well rounded with a bigger sonic palette. Any videos I got off youtube of the V station were just a bunch of stagnant trance arps.

Re: VA Softsynth vst's or Virus TI?

I would suggest Rob Papen's Predator softsynth. A lot of people say it is a great soft alternative to a Virus. Personally I love the Virus, but find that although they are very versatile it it is hard to get away from the "trancieness". Rob Papen has a few different synths. My favorites are the Pred...

Novation V-Station synth, Yay or Nay?

So last week I got a Novation compact SL49. Totally love the controller. Of course it came with a bundle of plug ins and the like. I have left the boxed V-Station sitting on the desk unopened. Here is the thing I really am not sure I want to install it. I have not been able to find any really good e...

Re: Allow me to be the first to b***h about the new Macbooks

I was pretty bummed too. Part of the reason I like the MB more than the Pro is the smaller size. I'm not using my FW port now, but I planned to get a new audio interface sometime in the near future (using the XioSynth as my audio interface kind of sucks). And my AppleCare is up on my MacBook in Jun...

Re: Arturia Prophet V

Arturia makes a lot of cool stuff. I kind of wish they would venture away from emulation and work on a really slick original soft synth. I have been wanting the Prophet V ever since I first saw it. I am a SCI guy, and the idea of a prophet 5/VS hybrid, well I get all giddy. At the beginning of the w...

Re: Any thoughts on the Gmedia Virtual String Machine?

VSM is great, but the big thing for me is it houses the basis of the M-Tron Pro which I am climbing on the walls for. I have yet to get VSM as I have been playing around with Cheeze Machine, and I already have a Roland RS 202 damn it. I think when Gforce releases the Polymoog samples I might have to...

Re: Cheeze Machine-free string plugin

I grabbed the Cheeze a few days ago and really like it. It is rather limited compared to the Gforce VSM, but then again this is not a sample player now is it, and it is free. I think it is really hard to complain about the functions of freeware. Personally I really think it does what it sets out to ...

Re: Worst.. hardware sequencer.. EVER

Both of my old MMT-8's were prone to losing their memories. I would power 'em up and *poof* all data gone. After a couple of rounds backing up to cassette tape which SUCKED and took forever, I finally got an Alesis datadisk. If Roland doesn't get its a*s in gear and release another update to the Fa...

Re: Any thoughts on the Gmedia Virtual String Machine?

killanator posted a free string machine plug in. Cheeze machine. I have yet to try it out but it is free, so....

I read the review of VSM in Future Music a few months back and it really is a great plug in. Don't feel like I want to spend $100 (+/- 20) on it.

Re: Cheeze Machine-free string plugin

Last updates for Cheeze machine were made in 2003 (2002 for Mac version). I did find a newer compiled version for OS X available in VST and AU. The version off the dev site is only VST. The newer AU version was complied by Apulsoft and can be downloaded here: http://www.apulsoft.ch/freeports/ There ...

Re: Vintage synth prices to drop dramatically in downturn ?

I highly doubt it. Only if everyone has to sell because no one can afford them. Until the market gets more flooded I think prices will remain the same. I was laid off a month ago, and have been looking for another gig, but have had no thoughts of selling off my synths, other then ones I might sell a...

Re: New Little Phatty

Is is possible to like the Little Phatty more than a Voyager? Yes. The LP makes sense. Because if I am to drop $3k on an analog synth (especially one with such a large foot print) I may ask if I can get more then 1 voice. The LP has a very well designed lay out. I had an LP1 c**p out on me at the s...
