Re: Is a Yamaha Tyros a synthesizer?

Workstations are sinthesizers.

Tyros is a sinthesizer.

Tyros is not a workstation.

Casio toys.... not really sinthesizers, more like preset machines.

Any keyboard with synthesis abilities is considered a synthesizer.

Re: Yamaha EX7

....would I be right in assuming a EX7 is an AN1x with a sampler , more keys and extra arps and sequencer tracks ? [-X Actually it is an EX5 minus Virtual Acoustic. :D There was a recent discussion about this a while ago. I see it as an early Fusion. 4 types of synthesis, not the best looks, nice k...

Re: spooky sounds for halloween

LPFed Detuned Sine waves at with a moderate attack, vibrato and portamento and lots of feedback.

Also you could count spooky as some synthbass with some resonance, distorsion, flanger, phaser, delay and many cutoff and effects tricks. That sure scared the h**l out of my last dog.

I think I agree.
Yeah, me too. Although, for me it would look really nice. Yellow is the color of the future, people! :P

It's in quite a good condition. Congratulations. =D>

I'd probably change the keys but that's probably because I'm a maniac. If they work, they're good. Good luck.

Re: Cheap, Small, portable synths

I'd take the Micron. Portable, cheap, good looks, and has that Ion great sound.

You can get it second hand for US$ 250-300.

Re: JX-8P opinions?

JX-8P is the synth I always want to buy when I have some extra money but never get it and then spend it in something else. :P #-o

It has a nice 80's sound and it is really cheap. Great synth.

Re: If you were buying today...

I think I'll go ahead and take the ROMpler kid's position on this one.

My next purchase will actually be a JX-8P but I need a new Digital synth for live performance so Workstation it is.

Re: what are your favorite digital synths?

Kurzweil K2000r. That's a good point, the Kurzweil K2xxx series synths are probably the most powerful synth engines around, and they don't have that over effected, over layered tinsely sound that the Japanese digitals tend to have. And today I read at Rudess' forums you can actually play Pong on th...

Re: what are your favorite digital synths?

Alesis Micron: I needed a little backup synth and I had to choose between this and the Nord Modular G2; being short on money, I decided to try the mini-Ion and was fascinated. Korg Triton: Yeah, 100% rompler but I love those plasticky progressive sounds you can get out of this. Special mention: Casi...

Not from a particular synth, but I always come back to:

-FM Piano
-Mellotron Strings
-Derek Sherinian's Monster Lead
-My own weird progressive lead.
