Re: Roland 909 w/ Ext Sequencer - Loses the magic?

That's what people who own 909s say when they hear a machine that sounds just as good or better. If the newer machine also had an identical sequencer they would just drum up something else that supposedly makes the 909 unique. You've noticed that as well have you? Although not just about 909s Many ...

Ion iED04 / Alesis Performance Pad and Cubase SX2

I'm having difficulty thinking of any way to sync these two together. I had a similar problem getting Cubase to sync to a Zoom RT-323 but got round it by using Cubase as a master and the Zoom as a slave. Unfortunately this is not possible as the Ion only has a MIDI Out. Reading through the Cubase ma...

What was your experience with the 707? It's basically a Yamaha FB01 synth engine with a keyboard and a quasi-subtractive programming interface. Same as the DS-8 but fewer keys and M1-like styling. Ran on batteries (keytar alert!!). The bad news was that the easier programming meant you lost full co...

For me it would be the following

TB-303 (Over hyped, over priced and pretty awful when it was made and even more so now)

D-110 (Far too complicated and not worth the effort)

First synth I ever bought was a Korg M500 which wasn't much more than a glorified toy.

A few months later I purchased a Yamaha CS-5 which was a bit of bad judgement as couple of months after that I got hold of a secondhand CS-15!

Wish I still had the CS-15

Re: Sequential Pro-One.....what's the appeal? I don't get i

About 10 or so years ago I picked up a Sequential Circuits Pro-One locally for $125. I had wanted one since the 80's when they were first released, and was glad to have found one. Anyway, I found the synth......rather un-inspiring. It did not have a warmth to it like my Minimoog. It had what I woul...

1. Digital synths sound cold and thin compared to analogue

2. It's old, it's analogue, it must be worth a fortune

3. All TB-303 emulations don't sound as good as the real thing

4. All virtual analogues don't sound like real analogues

I started on a Sinclair Spectrum based sequencer, whose name I can't remember, from that I went to Sequencer One on the Commodore Amiga.

Since I started using a PC I have gone from Cakewalk Express to my current sequencer which is Cubase SX2

The other thing not mentioned is that the lower range CS synths (5,10,16,30) are built like tanks, compared to the Moogs, Korgs and Rolands I had at that time.

Never seen one of the wooden variety CS synths (CS-15D) to comment on their build quality

I use to own both a CS-5 and a CS-15

Find the CS-5 a bit limited nowadays, it was my first proper synth when I got it, but would love to have my CS-15 back
