Re: 2012 "Year of the Monosynth"

Re: Jean-Michel Jarre's Favorite Keys

This article is very weird. Though the early successful pioneers like Wendy Carlos, Mort Garson, and Hot Butter primed the public's ears, their output was mostly either novelty arrangements of pre-existing hits or just plain novelty. Wendy carlos was novelty? Say f**k what? The current trend for us...

I thought of that but the McBeth M5/M5N had a pretty limited run, I asked Mr. MacBeth how many were made and even he doesn't really know (or isn't saying). Somewhere between 80 and 120 were made.

Analogue & otherwise Educational Synthesizers

Taking a cue and an inspiration from the largest monophonic thread - I thought it might be fun to post some early analogue educational synthesizers. This is an ARP http://www.sequencer.de/pix/arp/arp_educational.jpg a Korg, http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/namm/2003/korg_02.jpg a different angle Ko...

Re: more Korg analog - Monotron Duo & Monotron Delay

I got a Monotron delay last week and I have to agree with everything you've written here. And to boot - a very well written review.

C'mon $50 folks! Any cheaper and they're giving them away...

Re: Arp Explorer

I have one but it has seen better days. It had a drop and as result, a cracked circuit board and a broken lever. I bought it for a whopping $650 in 1979. I could never sell it as it was my first synth and is featured on my hit single: http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_6029479 Orphan Baby rec...

Speaking of boys with toys, Geoff Downes uses a Gaia on stage with Yes. Not sure if that is a ringing endorsement, considering...

Re: Synths from the past to the future

Many good points there. My MacBeth M5 has no screen (or USB) but many other keyboards I own, do.

Re: Synths from the past to the future

.... The reason why I have no interest in VSTs/plugins etc is that I just find looking at computer screen utterly stultifying. I spend enough time in front of one - i want to get away from it now and again. I don't doubt that they can be very powerful tools in the hands of the right person, but sim...
