Re: Power electronics / noise

http://www.plastiquepeople.com/blogg/throbbing-gristle-tgrolandpic.jpg Throbbing Gristle sure are surrounded by an impressive array of samplers in that photo. Yeah, I've dabbled in these styles quite a bit. I still think the feedback loop method is better-suited for noise than working with modulars...

Stevie Wonder during some of his classic phases. I probably wouldn't have even needed to be a fly as he wouldn't have been able to see me!

Re: Analog Polyphony

Purely on grounds of pedantry, your description of divide-down is not entirely correct. Many divide-down synths don't use 12 oscillators. It's common to have only one, running at a high speed (just over 2MHz) and divide it 12 ways. The Korg Lambda, for example, has 3 oscillators, they are independe...

... bells?

Most tamborines have small metal discs, similar to finger cymbals, attached to the frame.

Re: was the pro 5 the only funk synth

Even the DX7 was funky. If you don't believe me, listen to virtually any Electrofunk song from 1986. It really is. I love to turn it on and just jam for hours. For some reason I haven't been able to get the same bite out of the software emulations I've tried. I think there's also something about th...

Re: David Sancious's comment on vintage gear (keyboard mag)

and I´m sure Sancious is more into that type of thing anyway, being tied to the limitations of the genre he works within. I hope you mean the 'limitations of all genres' , including the one you like to make. [...] "Limitations force you to be creative." (Brian Eno) Of course, everything is limited ...

Calling that "cheesy c**p" probably shows how little you know about music.

Re: Sonic State King Korg review

...Just watched the vid, gotta say I'm quite impressed. They did a good job, nice to see they cut down on the cheese and made the demo more relevant to modern stuff too (could have done without the Jump patch demo tho which to be honest sounded nothing like the original sound anyway). The Oberheim ...

Re: synths: more with less OR less with more?

Seriously though, I have three analog synths, a midi controller for soft synths and a Rhodes piano at the moment. I don't really think it's the amount of gear that "hinders me" from making more music, but there was just one point in under...

Re: I Dream of Wires

Okay, I just want to ask a question.

Does "modern" here refer to some sort of electronic dance music by default?

I should note that I'm listening to Weather Report while typing this.

Re: I Dream of Wires

You qualify as a nerd when you think AD&D really is an improvement over D&D. Not to mention that "advanced" game systems are not the optimal choice if you want to smoke weed while playing those games. So, yeah, nerd. Not sure if modular synths really get into that territory. While "wanna see my modu...

Re: Kavinsky says, "No analog gear"

how to sound vintage. low pass everything. Just put a shelf filter on your two track mix buss and cut everything above 10k. Add a little bit of distortion to every single track. Use way too much reverb. sample some 60 cycle hum (or 50 cycle hum to be exotic!) and loop it under the whole track. map ...

Re: does any synth sound better to your ears than an Omega 8

Does the Omega 8 sound like a polyphonic version of the SE-1 or ATC-X? Because that's what I've thought it could sound like (judged by the youtube clips it should be somewhere in that territory).

Re: does any synth sound better to your ears than an Omega 8

If money really isn't an issue do some background research on what synths people used on your favourite records and get those same units. My guess is that you're looking for sounds that originally came from units such as the Memorymoog, Jupiter-8 or the Oberheim OB-X (or OB-Xa). You really can't go ...

Re: Anyone here own a Yamaha Sk30

The "strings" come from the same divide-down source as the "polysynth" does. So, basically, when you alter the "foot" of the string section you're just stacking notes from different octaves like you would do on any other stringer synth. That doesn't necessarily sound like an extra oscillator as ther...
