Re: MOTU Volta

Nope. Says it's for Mac. Guess the rest of us will have to make it ourselves or check the Max/MSP forums. Hopefully they make one for Windows and hopefully it works with Echo audio interfaces. Come on Motu this is too awesome to not make it available for Win. inb4 Macfanboy's say get a Mac and star...

Looks cool, I'll have a proper snoop later. Hope it's Windows XP-compatible (I haven't had a proper check yet).

Re: NAMM FX news

Oh man...may have to get one of them... Can someone explain to me why these units are so cool? I know the eventide pitch shifting has been used on some great records, but what makes the eventide version so popular? I honestly don't know much about pitch shifting effects in general. I don't have any ...

Re: nice rack! (in your desk...)

I'd suggest putting compressors and EQs right in front of you, as those are the ones that I find I really need to tweak while listening and concentrating in the sweet spot, whereas, for example, with a rack synth I know pretty much how to get to the sound I want, and then just modify it a little fro...

Re: Micing Synths

i also reverse wired a random speaker cone that i had sitting around to make an extra-large diaphragm dynamic mic. used on certain tracks it can really add some balls to the sound. This is a nice idea. I've only heard it on kick drums (guess kicks are the only instrument that can provide enough sig...

Re: Horizontal Racks?

Well at least we now have an idea of what you're after. Something small may not be strong enough to hold your gear though - as space6oy says, check manufacturers' sites, there are loads of potential suppliers you can get stuff like that from.

Re: a few questions about Auralex and its ilk...

Auralex offer a service (I think it's actually free) where you send them the dimensions and wall materials of your room (with any furniture stated), and then they tell you how best to treat it - I intend to use it at some point, but for the last...hmmm...eight years I've alternated between living at...

Re: Thoughts on the Red Witch Empress Chorus?

May be too far out of your budget, but I've heard good things about Damage Control pedals. The Glass Nexus is £399 list and offers stereo in and out as well as MIDI in and out (not sure how out would be useful) and runs off two valves at full voltage, so no starved-plate stuff here. It also includes...

Re: Horizontal Racks?

Yeah, that was the only idea I could come up with, like in a pro studio where they have whole cabinets. In the abscence of a photo, thinkingbeat, is there a chance you could knock up a quick picture in MS Paint or something? purchase a however many you'd like side-by-side and and then bolt them toge...

Do you have a photo of what you're talking about? I can't think of what you're saying - seems to me that I've never seen anything other than a horizontal rack.

Re: Basic effect stack for Poly Evolver, Nord Lead?

Is 250-500 per effect a reasonable budget to get something quality? Yes, I think so. You won't get top-of-the-line, but there's lots of good, useable stuff availabe in that range. As regards other effects, I'd recommend ignoring a multi-FX unit's capabilities with compression or EQ - I have a TC El...

Re: Help with CV and Gate again. (Mono/poly and Saturn09)

I think perhaps that plugging into the MP's cv/gate ins disables the keyboard It does. I'm not quite sure what your overall question is though? I get the impression that you're thinking you can play something on the MP, then with the sequencer of the CSQ-600 you can record the necessary CV and gate...
