Re: Roland synths price point back in the day

In around the mid 1980s the SH101 was £199 - the Casio CZ101 and Yamaha DX100 were £350, the Yamaha DX7 was £1200, the Ensoinq ESQ1 was about £1400, the Roland Jupiter 8 was £3300 as was the Seq. Prophet 5. Linn Drum was £5500. I think the Korg PolySix was about £700. At the time for most young peop...

Nice find, I think everyone is entitled to find something special like this in their lifetime. If we don't hear from you again, to which prison shall we send the "file in a sandwich"

Is there not some magic button presses that call up an internal diagnostic mode like there is with the EPS16+?

Re: Ensoniq EPS-16+ SCSI issue

Yeh it confused me. My ZIP100Plus came with a special iomega Active Sense scsi lead which doesn't allow chain of scsi devices it was just the sampler to ZIP and nothing else. I bought the sampler and ZIP as a pair and I'm sure it worked with no modifcations. The planets moved and suddenly that combo...

Re: Ensoniq EPS-16+ SCSI issue

I have an EPS16+ rack that came with a ZIP100+ and I'm sure it worked without any mods. Then Pluto was declared not to be a gas cloud after all and then ZIP100 no longer seemed to work. I added the diode to the 5V pin 25 and it all seemed to work again!? Just a few pointers, do measure the voltage o...

Re: What software is used to write the EPS249OS.hfe image to a floppy?

It sounds like you guys are on the case. Just my 2p from my use of floppy with EPS16+. To save my sanity I had to check each floppy for bad sectors on a computer before I did anything Ensoniq. A time consuming pain but I found bad sectors wouldn't get picked up as a fault so when the EPS16+ came to ...

Re: Ensoniq EPS - disk not formated issue

I suppose the tricky thing here is, if the floppy drive is faulty or the supplied floppy disk from eBay is not to spec. Difficult to know for sure. I would think a popular suggestion would be, dump the mechanical drive and get a new HxC/Gotek jobbie. Some kind EPS user may even send you a verified O...

Re: Say I'm Your Number One (Princess, Stock/Aitken/Waterman) - Synths

This is one of my all time fav tracks, I was shocked to discover it was SAW, some of their tunes were.. a bit grim, BD on evey beat, way too loud drums, they got worse. I have a greatest hits cd and it obvious they seemed to get lazy, just have the drum machine up loud. Anyway this track is magic, I...

Re: Ensoniq EPS issue

I have the Service Manual for the ESP16+ which goes into some detail in top level fault finding, but how relevant it is to the EPS. There is a Diag. Disk for the 16+, I wonder if there is anything for the EPS.... only Mr R will know.

Re: Peavey DPM V2 no sound

That's a good find, no it's not me but could have! Mine had the exact same battery leak which took out some tracks/traces. My fear was the cute white DSP chips might be dead, thankfully a buzz out of the tracks/traces and I found the probs. The diag disk was a help too. My only suggestion now is, ke...

Re: Peavey DPM V2 no sound

I repaired a DPM se recently, the damage was caused by leaking battery goo rotting PCB tracks/traces. I was surpised at there was no real signs of goo or any leakage but in time I found some rotted out items. With the kbd I fixed Peavey have a diagnostic disk that gave me a head start. I'm not sure ...

Re: MPC The Kit

That looks like something I designed and made in the early 1980's. To put it another way, at that time we (electronics guys) were experimenting designing our own drum machines. We'd made the analogue drums and decided digital was needed for the cymbals. Partly encouraged by Simmonds who was emerging...

Hurrah! Mr R saves the day! Thanks, I did have a quick look on that site but didn't come across that page. I esp. like those config files on offer, nice.
