I have both so I guess I would have recognised. They share similar Envelope and LFO Parameter and except the first sentence the description looks correct...

No, it's wrong, the FZ does have some synthesis functions, like for instance an additive waveform editor, but they calculate samples, other than that the FZ is working with "analog" (maybe bucket brigade memory based) filters.

The XT/2 Series isn't that glassy sounding, but you might find an access microwave Controller for hands on control.

As usual a CR2032 you should be able to get from every computer shop, due to the battery holder it's easy to replace...

Modulatable Sample- and Loop-Start would be nice, for instance to create your own "wavetables" or simulating free running Oscillators...

Not sure if I understand your question completely, but it could be you use slighty detune oscillators that partly cancel each other out. This could also happen if you add FM or Ringmod to the signal flow, for instance to spice up the sound...
