Dont do anything unless you have to... and then only do it if you have all the correct test equipment and the set up notes. Its not an easy job

Re: Can an electronics engineer do the work of a synth tech?

Most people with an EE background have more experience with designing modern circuits than troubleshooting ancient ones. If there's a more serious problem, I'd take it to someone expensive that knows synths over a cheaper EE guy, especially if you're paying them by the hour. I hear bad things about ...

Re: Can an electronics engineer do the work of a synth tech?

If they know what they are doing then why not?? I would rather trust an electronics engineer who knows about "electronics" than alot of "synth techs" who to be honest normaly dont know much from my own experiance. As long as you can get the circuits then not that hard to fix

Re: Synch TR-808 and Pro One. Advice Please !

Not tried it myself as i dont have a tr808 but you will have trigger outputs on sockets on the rear of the tr808 - i think they give a +15 output which should be fine to feed into the gate input of the pro one. Check the manual on the roland and it will tell you. Plug it in and just try.... remember...

Re: sh101 rust!

i have just done one myself. Remove the panel from the synth if not already done as the rust on these can be a sign the battery have leaked and it eats through the metal..... sand it down to bare metal in the werst parts then prime it and spray with satin black finish. It will look fine after

Re: Monitor Speaker question

test one with a meter to see what the impedance is 4 / 8 whatever.... then test the other one on its own to make sure the same..... connect together and then see what you have. if the value goes from say 8 ohms as single units down to 4 ohms connected together then its paralell.... if it goes from 8...

Re: SCI Pro One

Just buy one... amazing machine to use. I have sold around 4 in the last few months for £1000 uk. But i had them serviced and key bushing replaced so they were full workers. Around £650 / £700 for one that is in good working condition is the going price

Re: Prophet 5 Re-Capping and general repairs

Thanks guys for all the replys!! There seems to be a bit of conflicting advice from various places regarding swapping electro's with tants....I've been told replace all tants with electro's except on the voice board.... How does that sound as a compromise?? Also does anyone have a copy of the schem...

Re: Prophet 5 Re-Capping and general repairs

Replace any tants in the system but not with Electroytics...... they are not the same and will effect the sound. Replace with NEW tants is best but not New old stock as they could be werse even if not used. They have a limited shelf life so just get some from a distributer like RS componets.

Re: Roland Juno D?!

If you like playing the piano then i dont think you will like the keyboard on this... It has a nasty cheap feel and the keys are a little smaller than full size too. If it was me i would get maybe a used Motif as better quality all round and a nice keyboard action

Re: Roland SH-101 problems

woo. fixed. theres this little metal tab-like thing between the ext. clock and hold switch mounts. I must have bent it a little while taking it apart. I pressed it down and bent the tab back against the board and now its fine! Yep its an earthig tag and would have shorted the plug out thinking you ...

Re: Roland SH-101 problems

It says "hold" on the back panel connections for the 1/4" socket. If it was switched on then it is possible to have damaged something if you shorted anything out...... if it was the hold light flicking on/off when moving the sockets then you might be lucky and its the socket or wire come off.
