Re: Prophet 5 - DOWNGRADE - Impossible????

Hobbs360 wrote:Ive read on this forum a few months back, that a downgrade from a rev 3 to a 2 or 1 it was impossible, is this a fact?
It's entirely impossible. Even the external panel is not compatible between the two versions, yet alone anything inside...

Re: snobbish question / best PW

Voyetra 8. Why ? ...because of keyboard scaling of pulse width modulation amount. The ssm2044 filters certainly don't hurt either...

Re: playing synths and not really knowing how to play piano.....

...Dorian, Phrygian and Aeolian are minor sounding and will sound "sad" or dark. Each has it's own sound and you can build chords off of them. 1. Ionian mode (the major scale) 2. Dorian mode 3. Phrygian mode 4. Lydian mode 5. Mixolydian mode 6. Aolian mode (the natural minor scale) 7. Locrian mode ...

Re: My $500 Prophet 5

Preemptive drama smasher alert - If this in anyway turns into some flame war about otto flipping his synth, there will be actions taken. anyhow... I would have done the same. No sense in having a big dinosaur kicking about when the cash would be way more exciting or useful. h**l I would have immedi...

Re: My $500 Prophet 5

I'm just glad one of us got the deal and not someone looking to flip it. I still regret not buying the Rev 3.3 I had a chance at three years ago for $1250. I had the money too since I'd just sold my entire vinyl collection but needed it as I was jobless at that point. Sigh. I'm also glad it went to...

Re: OMEGA 8 sound quality in comparison to others?

...sound in the bright and harsh and ballsy category similar to the MKS 80 rev 4 or the OBXa. You would be forgiven for using the term "harsh" in reference to the MKS-80, but not the OBXa... You might as well frame your question in terms of an Andromeda vs. Omega 8 comparison, because that's all th...

Re: Any demos of the Octave Plateau Voyetra 8??

About once every two years I pull my half-working Voyetra 8 out of the closet and try to decide whether to fix it, sell it, or put it back in the closet. Somehow the closet always wins....

Re: so what happens when we cant get curtis chips no more?

adhmzaiusz wrote: do you guys think there will be a chip crisis ? :(
No. The failure rate of Curtis chips on a well-maintained 25 yr. old synth is no more than when it was new. Furthermore, the availability of chips in dormant synths exceeds demand for the forseeable future...

Re: What synth do you think has the 'best' string sounds?

1. PWM. A given. 2. Keyboard control over LFO speed. This is not as common as one might think. A slow LFO modulating the PWM is great in the low end, but LFO sounds better if it speeds up as one goes up the keyboard. Well spoken point. The reason it's not so common (at least on the older vintage an...

Re: how much is an OBX 8 voice worth?

There was almost a year-long period across 2005-2006 in which there was not one single OBX on ebay worldwide, in any shape or form. Then an average condition four-voice OBX came along and went for over $3000. In more recent times I would guess that legitimate auctions of the OBX (discounting relisti...
