Re: Synths that didn't impress you

Some more for the underwhelming pile... I have tried 4 seperate times to like the DSI Evolver. The specs are amazing, the sound is bleh. The price is amazing so I keep buying them but always sell them on quickly as soon as I need some cash. I had a EX5R for a bit that was great to use a synth but fr...

Re: Synths that didn't impress you

ok so being super wow'd by a synth... Things I took a chance on because they were a good deal or local (usually both) and ended up liking way more than I thought I would are... -Teenage Engineering OP-1 (and it keeps getting better) -Waldorf Microwaves 1 & 2 -Arturia Minibrute/Microbrute (have both...

Re: Synths that didn't impress you

Perhaps you would have enjoyed your TX816 more if like me you had your own line mixer with effect sends for it and this... Mine's got the rack ears as well... http://www.synthfind.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Beetle-PR-7.jpg Truth be told all I do with my TX816 is make scary, clangy noises or use ...

Re: Oberheim Xpander vs Waldorf Microwave 1

I've read some people say that the VS and Microwave 1 sound very similar so maybe save yourself some dough and get a MW1. Prices seem to have dropped a bit on them lately. Of course, you dont get the Vector Synthesis but the general sound is similar. I love the h**l out of the Microwaves. Have a 1 a...

Re: Synths that didn't impress you

I'll just keep it to things that I was very excited to try, there's a lot of hype for, but underwhlemed me. Some of them that I didn't do enough reading on before buying. Prophet T8. Especially once I had an Andromeda and Jupiter 6 Europa in the studio. Those two are keepers. Trident/MonoPoly/PolySi...

Re: analog drum synths

SC40 is the best, the BEST!

Very swiss army knife kind of drum synth.

I used to have a billion of them, I've been through most of them. The dedicated drum synths I've kept are

Pearl Syncussion SY-1
Pearl SC40
Tama TS 204 (synth/hand clap)
Jomox MBrane 11

Re: Waldorf Pulse or Minibrute?

Waldorf should be paying you money, Ned. Yours are some of the best Pulse 2 demos out there.

I imagine I will get one in time. Will wait for the price to drop a bit though here in North America. JRRShop had them 549 or 599 last Black Friday. Should have grabbed one then.

Re: MacBeth M5 Korg Kronos 73 sell it?

Let me be the contrarian. If you loved the Macbeth M5 you would use it more. You would not be thinking of selling it, you would not be looking for patch examples to rekindle your love for it. If it was something that could be packed and shipped easily with minimal chance of drama it would be gone. B...

Re: Jupiter 6 Vs Proph 08

It was a rev5 so maybe this is a stretch... It's a pretty big stretch. The Jupe 6 is more like a rev 4. not rev 5 MKS-80. The rev 5s use the filter chips from MKS-70s which I agree has a much more tame, but still great sound. There are also other sound shaping options on the Jupiter 6, especially w...

They're so cheap, get both. That's what I did. Ridiculous value for the money.

Re: JRR Secret Sale

I see the Volcas are gone now LOL. Should have jumped on it sooner. Count me out then. Not as exciting of a deal now. With shipping and exchange and everything I will just find one locally soon enough for a similar price.

Re: JRR Secret Sale

Yep. If it's 3 x MS20 Mini and Volca for $1200 then I'd be down and can paypal you right away, Walter. Just trying to decide whether I want the Keys or Beats. Probably beats. Put it through their checkout and see. Will PM you my deets.

Re: Synthesizers.com system

I'd have to disagree...modules get snapped up almost immediately at the dotcom Yahoo group and they usually go for about 80% of retail. Depends on the module. I've seen lots of stuff sit around on Muff's forever and go for half or less. The most in demand stuff and 3rd party stuff can sometimes get...

Re: Synthesizers.com system

Buy used. That goes for all modular but especially dotcom. A lot of time the resale for dotcom is 50% of new if you don't like it. If you can even find a buyer when the time comes to sell.

Re: New stuff from Roland!

I've owned and sold two 808s and it sounds like an 808 to me. Especially in that Sonic State video. And I'm excited by the 909 emulation as well. I'd been toying with picking up a used Drumstation for awhile but this sounds much better and has a great interface. Individual outs via USB is fantastic ...
