Re: Which synth shall I purchase for analog 80's sound?

I'd go with a Jupiter 6, try to find one Europafied. It will do whatever you want and have enough edge and bite to its sound. Where in the world are you? That will help you with your choice as well. Just buy the best thing you can locally. Even put up a WTB ad on your local classifieds with a list o...

Decent prices on those for anyone in Montreal. Especially the Microwave.

Re: Favorite Stringer?

Ah, the Lambda. Would have been fun to try. I'll never forget missing out on one locally for $75 by 10 minutes. Of the ones I own, I love my ARP Solina SE-IV the best. It literally sounds like crispy magic, just so alive, and the CV/Gate outputs are great when using it with effects or other gear in ...

Re: To the person who snapped up the Jupiter 8 for 3500

The Toronto one smells scammy. I hate when they don't give relatively precise addresses. Voltage really doesn't matter, there's convertors or a tech can easily rewire it. $3500 seems like a decent chunk of change to put into it plus tech but I'm sure RJD2 has someone he trusts and if youre going to ...

A used V-Synth XT rack. Low end is about 1000.

Tried the Prophet 12 keyboard at a store here the other day. Nice, fun to play with, but won't be shelling out for it.

Re: Andromeda buyer tips

Haha. You can PM me. I've been a record collector for over 30 years, hosted radio shows, DJed lots of gigs and would like your perspective. Though I have sold over 8000 records and CDs, I still have almost 5000 for sale and over 90% of them are worth $10 or less. Many of them were worth much more th...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips

Why bother with records and synthesizers if they cause you so much stress, period? And are more than you want to pay? There are lots of synthesizers I would like but am unwilling to pay the going rate for so I just enjoy the ones I do have. I enjoy my hobby, I have fun, I have all the usual obligati...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips

They're only going to get more expensive as time goes on like the other popular synths. I would have liked to try a EMS Synthi AKS, Korg PS3100/PS3300 or ARP 2600 before prices went bananas but such is life. I wouldn't have guessed 5-7 years ago that these synths would be going for the prices they d...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

Nah, it's just that in the grand pantheon of synths they just sound bad to alright, but not great. Throw in an interface that people don't like using, especially since it's an instrument, and it will end up on many people's worst list.

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

I've bought and sold a lot and there's a lot of things I wouldn't pay the money for but for things I've actually I owned and also despised and couldn't sell fast enough... I was amazed at how terrible the Novation A-Station was. I wanted some VA on the cheap and there's no way it could be cheap enou...

Re: how far will minibrute prices fall?

Probably 250-300 like the Mopho. Amazing synths for the price. I just got a Microbrute yesterday and now have the both together.

If you were just going to buy one I would still go Minibrute despite some of the cool features of the Micro.

Lots of options in modular as well. Eurorack, Modcan, MOTM, Frac have all their own spins of analog and digital fun.

Re: Trading Vintage For New Golden Age

The thought of selling the SH-5 I don't have makes me feel sick. If it is anything like the rest of Roland's greats from the 70's and early 80's that I have had the pleasure of owning or playing then you would be selling something with character and charm that none of the listed modern analogues co...
