Re: Casio HZ/HT memory

Found a reference in Synth Museum that states the HZ-600 uses 6 D-cells. Don't know what else to tell you. Synthe is far too old to have FLASH memory. It might be some faulty component on the motherboard - someone on the Casio HT-3000 page here on VS stated that they replaced a faulty diode and use...

Casio HZ/HT memory

Casio HZ-600 synthesizer. Does not store patches after I turn it off and factory patches are restored when I turn it back on. I thought it would be similar to the CZ-101 in that it needs massive D-Cell batteries in the bottom to hold memory but I've tried and this does not appear to be the case. The...

Re: Casio HZ-600

Ah, sounds a lot like the alpha juno then, which is easy but tedious. There's always an editor for that though. I checked out some prices and recent completed listings on ebay for these and some of the similar HT series casios. They can be picked up anywhere from $25-100. Not bad. Cheap synths are ...

Re: Casio HZ-600

Very nice little clip! I've always wanted to get a casio synth. Is it a pain to program or not too bad? Very easy to program; there is a grand total of one big dial and two buttons for editing. First select a memory patch, then press the mode button. Turn the wheel to select the parameter you want ...

Casio HZ-600

I snapped one mint condition on eBay for the tiny sum of £36! I couldn't resist - I've always wanted to play about with these cheap little synths. Lo and behold, a bit of tweaking later and its a surprisingly capable little machine - Its Akin to the Poly 800 but can sound a little bit like a PPG wav...

Re: That 80s Digi-Brass. DX7? Sample? Analogue?

I know the last post for this was all the way back in June, BUT, I got the exact sound using my Korg M50. Created a program with two oscillators First set to "Detuned PWM Wave" Second set to "Synth Brass" Second OSC set to 16' wave, transpose +7, tuned +0020 The pitch envelope is applied to both - t...

Re: That 80s Digi-Brass. DX7? Sample? Analogue?

Was watching some nostalgia critic, the saved by the bell episode, and you know what I found? A music video made by the cast that has a brass sound that is very close to the Digi brass used by The Jets and similar mid 80s songs. Some bigger chords and/or a chorus is all it needs, I think, to polish ...

Re: That 80s Digi-Brass. DX7? Sample? Analogue?

i dunno it sounds a little too "good" to be one of those awful 80's sampled brass patches. I'm gonna guess it was the oberheim, you could get this sound with a VA or an 80's analogue/digital hybrid too, my matrix 6 has a very similar patch :) anyhow, the good news is that you could get that sound o...

Re: That 80s Digi-Brass. DX7? Sample? Analogue?

I know The Jets used an Emulator II, so it's possible that's where it originated from. You can actually see one in the video for Crush on You. They also used an Oberheim OB8 (also in the video I think), which could also very well be the source for that sound. People used the OBXa/OB8 quite a bit fo...

That 80s Digi-Brass. DX7? Sample? Analogue?

80s cheesy sounds are just that, cheesy - but that HUGE digi-brass sound you hear in loads of mid-80s songs always puts a smile on my face; though I have never been able to figure out what on earth it is. I'm leaning towards a DX7 with lots of processing (mostly chorus and 'verb, by the sounds of it...

I am genuinely impressed with that cheap little board. For the price you pay it sounds pretty damn sweet.

Solo synth seems nice and gritty and that's always a bonus.

Re: Finally got a VZ-1 demo ready

There are only 4 tracks to the tune but the complexity is what boggles my mind. It's definitely "advanced" compared to what I do. I'd love to learn how to make music like this though, especially old Commodore 64 and NES synth tunes. It's tough though. Oh well. Looking forward to hearing more tracks...

Thank You!

I'd love to hear those samples, if you don't mind me asking.

Re: Finally got a VZ-1 demo ready

Wow, that sounded great! Nice work. Are the drum sounds from the VZ-1? Thanks :) The drums are samples from my computer. I had a VZ-1 once, didn't get to spend much time with it before I sold it. I love the CZ series of synths though, but they are worlds apart really. Anyway, I like the cover of th...
