Re: Coolest modern niche synths...

I like your style. I certainly would add all those to my list, if I could. I noticed that AnalogueHeaven does have super-nichy one-function type synths, which I can't quite see getting right now, but something like Vostok is great! I heard this gritty demo on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Re: Coolest modern niche synths...

Actually I have not, and that seems like some interesting stuff! Which ones do you personally fancy?

Coolest modern niche synths...

Lately I've been looking around at interesting modern niche synths, such as those from Futureretro, Vermona, etc. What are your favorite ones? Big volume producers excluded!

Re: Suggest a VST host, ala "Virtual Rack"?

It just occured to me that whole 64 vs 32 bit is quite an issue right now. Sonar is supposedly able to run 32 bit plugins on a 64 bit machine, though I am sceptical. I am running a 64 bit quad core Vista machine, and the host would have to support that. I am at the point where I am thinking of getti...

Suggest a VST host, ala "Virtual Rack"?

Is there any decent standalone software that is like Sonar's VST rack? I'd like to be able to setup a generic virtual rack that functions similarly to a hardware rack, where a set configuration of synths is installed and configured to specific midi channels, startable with a button click. Sonar seem...

Re: Moog Voyager Rack, anything lost other than keyboard?

Voyager keyboard is actually very large, with large sturdy knobs an lots of space between them. The rack version obviously must be quite a bit smaller. Any thoughts on the shrinking that's done to get the module to fit into a rack? Any compromises?

Re: Moog Voyager Rack, anything lost other than keyboard?

I know it's an annoying question, but you could elaborate on the "lost feel"? In fact, if we are talking "feel", does it make sense to even go as far as to get Old School? RME is very tempting because of the price.

Re: Moog Voyager Rack, anything lost other than keyboard?

That's good. I know, for example, that if I were to get a Supernova II, I would go for the key version. Thankfully the Voyager is the same in both version.

Moog Voyager Rack, anything lost other than keyboard?

Other than keyboard and mod wheels, is anything control-wise or feature-wise lost in the rack version? Methinks that might be my next purchase.

Re: Synth outputs... balanced or unbalanced?

Tks folks! That's pretty much what I thought, that unless I have a high-end workstation, I am very unlikely to have balanced outs.

Synth outputs... balanced or unbalanced?

Do synths pretty much all have unbalanced outputs? I am planning a cable purchase along with a audio interface that supports balanced and want to make sure I get the right thing.

PS: my list of synths is on my avatar.

Re: Recession, what recession?

I think the difference is probably that I pretty much look for lower to mid price of the market. I think I should raise my head a little and look at values in the upper range.

Recession, what recession?

Anyone notice that prices on preowned stuff on eBay have gone up rather than down? Perhaps people are piling into better values? Perhaps my eyes are playing tricks on me.

What do you thinK?

Re: Supernova II, really worth 1k?

Great comments, thanks! So it seems that while SN 2 has some additional features, the extra price tag primarily comes from its "king of the hill" status in the Novation lineup. The realtime of the keyboard does seem killer. Now that X-Station has been mentioned, I might as well ask: after the Supern...

Supernova II, really worth 1k?

I've noticed that people go gaga over the Supernova II, and will pay 800-1200 for it depending on condition and whether it's a keyboard. The original version will sell anywhere betwee 450-600. Is the Supernova II really worth twice the price based on featuers? I mean features other than voice count....
