Old Virus, Old Nord, for that matter all "Old" versions

I previously heard that for some reason Nord Lead 3 sounded differently than the 2. This begs the question, for these series of VAs, are you pretty much buying the same sound when you get Virus A vs Virus TI or Nord 1 vs Nord 3? This is assuming the same features are used on patches for both.

Re: The end of the Moog Voyager OS

I am not surprised that this happened. Even though this is a very interesting product that will probably become somewhat of a cult classic in the future, it probably made a very tough **business** proposition. At least there will be some floating around, even if at a premium.

Looks like blank panels are easily available in some colors: http://www.rackmountmart.com/html/srAc.htm

Patchbay seems like a good idea as well, though I would have an awful many patchbays by the end of it. :-)

Hmm, that custom power cable would be a problem indeed! Crud....

How to rack non-recessed synths (Nord, Radias, etc)?

I would like to rack my Nord Lead and Korg Radias along with some others. However, they do not have a recessed back panel. How do you guys do it? Do you leave an extra space and use angled connectors? Seems like an ugly solution requiring blank space covers as well. Is there some other way to do this?

Korg Z1 voice expansion, same as Triton addon?

Does anyone know if the Korg Z1 6-voice expansion card (DSPB-Z1) the same thing as the 6-voice MOSS addon board for Triton, Trinity, etc? I can't find any references to this anywhere.

Thanks!

Re: Sound on Sound UK vs US edition?

I picked up the US version of SoS, and that gave me the thought... why not do a definitive comparison. Anyone willing to lend me their copy of the UK copy (December issue, the one with Omnisphere on the cover), and I will do a page-by-page comparison. Will send the issue back at the end. Any takers?

Thanks for the thoughts! Can you guys recommend some of your favorite filterbanks that make great preowned values? I pretty much only buy preowned.

Re: Why doesn't every digital synth have a digital output?

Interesting stuff. Practicality certainly seems the heart of the issue then.

However, doesn't the MOTU 2408mk3 interface come with three optical in/outs in addition to the analog in/outs? That's a pretty affordable solution actually, especially if you are ok with preowned.

Why doesn't every digital synth have a digital output?

It seems truly bizarre to me that many digital synths do not have digital outs. In a digital mixing environment this at minimum means one roundtrip from DA->AD that's completely unnecessary and only will degrade sound quality. Is there any practical reason fort hsi? Anyone else wonder about this?

Re: Holding note on multiple synths...

Does RS7000 (or the MPC or roland MV series for that matter) record midi loops from external sources without interrupting the performance? That would be the ultimate hardware solution, especially for live situations.

Re: Basic effect stack for Poly Evolver, Nord Lead?

Yes, indeed. It's clearly possible to blow an entire budget on just one unit from what I am seeing. Is 250-500 per effect a reasonable budget to get something quality?

Re: Holding note on multiple synths...

Some neat ideas here. I once heard a live performance by Kid Beyond who specializes in beatboxing and live looping. He was using some kind of pedal board with some other devices. It was pretty sick how he created whole songs with several layers, all live. Anyone here use audio live loopers? ---- I j...
