Basic effect stack for Poly Evolver, Nord Lead?

I am trying to create an effects stack for my outboard synths, particularly the Evolver and Lead since they don't have FX units. What types of units would you recommend at a minimum besides reverb/delay? Which units should I consider to get effects that are much superior to the typical built-in effe...

Holding note on multiple synths...

I am refining my semi-live studio setup to capture jams and improvs. What's the best practice for keeping notes and chords triggered with hands off? Should I just get a pedal for each keyboard? Is there a very efficient way of creating midi loops live? Ideally I'd like to be able to to trigger some ...

Re: Sound on Sound UK vs US edition?

I emailed SOS, and they confirmed that there is no difference in the content, except for the ads. I am still sceptical, I'll probably do a check at some point.

Novation X-Station LFO/Arp Synchronization

I am using a 25-key X-station, and I absolutely love the sound, control and creativity of the instrument. However, I am working on an arp orchestra project and just found in the manual that instrument won't synch to an external clock. Was this perhaps solved in a software update? Is there a workarou...

Re: External vs VST effects

Thanks! I get exactly what you are saying. I was mainly trying to think ahead as I setup a workflow. I live by NYC, and I really really really should just spend time in more stores. I can always take my 25 key X-station and listen to every effect till I find something i like!

Sound on Sound UK vs US edition?

I am finally plonking down on a subscription for this magazine since it's time after time a detailed source of information. However, there are apparently two different edditions, and on the website it claims that the US edition has *most* of the content in the UK magazine + different ads. Is the con...

OK, now that the post has been moved, I see there is a really long thread on this exact topic. Sorry folks!

Re: How much is an Oberheim OB12 worth nowadays?

I think there are plenty of examples in synth history where what a synth couldn't do well became it's signature. I think synthesizer should me sound creation, not sound emulation. If a synth adds to the sonic palette of the setup, it belongs to be there. Plus, intuitive hands-on control is priceless...

Re: External vs VST effects

But that processor is 5k+. If I had an unlimited budget, I would probably use lots of outboard gear. My budget is relatively small however, and there are many affordable effects out there. Would, for example, the delay from Waves sound as good as the one on TC Electronic D-Two? Ian, what do you mean...

Re: How much is an Oberheim OB12 worth nowadays?

It was interesting that it got that much attention, even with the OB12 being spelled with some extraneous spaces. I don't even know how I found it!

Re: External vs VST effects

The realtime control with hardware is certainly invaluable. But what about multi-channel MOTU 2408 type setups? Shouldn't it be possible to run live, monitored effects defined per channel, the same way as for an external analog mixer? Or are VST effects not really "there" yet?

External vs VST effects

For those of you who do digital mixing of several hardware synths, do you bother with external effects (like TC Electronic D-Two), or do you run your reverbs/delays/etc in software via VST?

Re: John Bowen Solaris Synthesizer, heard of it?

Is this badboy all digital or are there analog components in there as well?

... and Blofeld, that sound is just downright kinky! Ok, now let me just meet the product manager who came up with the name Blofed. Heh.

How much is an Oberheim OB12 worth nowadays?

I see these pretty rarely, one sold for ~1000 on eBay recently. However, that seems awfully rich since it sold for about that much when it went out of production.
