Re: Overwhelming possibilities to connect things?

Well, it's all connected and it works quite well (it's very similar connected the way you describe how you would connect the patchbay), thing is that i'm gonna get 2 stereo fx that I need to add with most of the sends being used already. Also the sends are mono only and I would like to use a stereo...

Re: Balancing track levels in headphones

alright, so apart from the normalizing issue, was your question about metering answered? There's a couple different types of metering - used to be there were analog VU meters on the console/tape machine, but as they were mechanical, they didn't reflect actual volume level of transients. So when I st...

Re: Balancing track levels in headphones

just as a quick note: normalizing samples can be a good thing for your gain structure; ostensibly you'll pull down the level of them in the mix though. Normalizing tracks is a different thing. Same term, same process, wildly different result. If you normalize all your tracks, first off, you're going...

Re: Overwhelming possibilities to connect things?

my suggestion would be: for recording one synth at a time with the most flexibility - Synths and octatrack outs on a patchbay. Effects ins and outs on the patchbay as well. Hardwire your mixer inputs to the lower row of the patchbay. patch one synth's stereo out to the first two channels. Patch your...

Re: Overwhelming possibilities to connect things?

Is there like one optimal solution to connect my stuff? No. Rather than thinking about all the possibilities, step back for a second and ask what you need. are you frequently having to unplug and replug things to suit your workflow? If so, a patchbay with your most common setups available might be ...

Re: My first recording with Oberheim Xpander

it's probably the percussive sound - something similar is used in a lot of scores for an "eastern" sound.

I like the fizziness of the pads, what's being used in the "extensive effects chain", if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Ship 'em or sell 'em? - US/EU voltage wonderings

I moved from the US to the UK two years ago. I left most of my gear in storage, just brought a laptop, launchpad, and portable recorder. I didn't even have an XLR cable here. I was concerned about shipping and damaging the gear, didn't know how long I'd be in London... long story short, having the g...

Re: Track using only nanostudio...

I was looking at touchosc and various step sequencers, but didn't end up finding one I liked; also found iKAGEnoNE, which uses camera input to generate a sequence of noises. A great idea, but the sounds aren't exactly to my liking. it'd be great if it output MIDI though... also TB MIDI Tiny to use t...

Re: New Studio Addition: Minimoog!!

It was simply sent USPS Airmail - it turned up in the UK remarkably quickly considering it had to go through two sets of customs. Probably not the safest of methods though. cheers! That's FM for you :) Perfected in the Yamaha DX7 that came a decade later. The funniest thing about analog FM is when ...

Re: Filters and LFOs

if you're comfortable dissecting and rewiring, maybe use one from a modular? filter+powersupply wouldn't be cheap, but a doepfer filter+lfo would be less than a moogerfooger pedal, especially if you grab them used.
