Re: Physical Size of power supply caps
How to tell which of the green leads is hot and which is neutral? As far as I can tell, they're not marked. Sounds like I need to bite the bullet and invest in a DMM. A keybed question: I replaced the faulty keybed with one I know is 100% functional. Everything is now fine. So...clearly, I have no e...

Re: Physical Size of power supply caps
did u bother to measure PS ripple after you recapped? I'm not that advanced. FWIW, I checked every available replacement capacitor on Mouser (it was lots) and couldn't find a single one with the larger dimensions of the 25 year-old caps I replaced. No issues with the unit whatsoever. On another PS ...

Re: Physical Size of power supply caps
I just re-capped two ESQ-1 power supplies and noticed the same thing: smaller caps.
No issues with either one. Rock on.

Re: dead keys esq-1
Ooo...not sure....I haven't dived that deep into the OS or logic circuits.
I just use trial-and-error and deductive reasoning. Your method would be the one I would use.

Re: dead keys esq-1
O.K...based on that latest diagnosis, I would check the height of the nylon key contact spring holders and make sure they're adjusted uniformly. The keyboard encoder "looks" for two things: contact made at the top (which it reads as "note off") and contact at the bottom ("note on"). The relative tim...

Re: Just got an Ensoniq ESQ-1
I think I found the mouser part number: 312-9100F-5K It's got a 2cm high stem. I don't think the dimensions are correct on that part - also the screw holes are a different size and are spaced differently than the correct part. Oh, well...I took a swing at it at least. PM sent reference wooden end c...

Re: dead keys esq-1
I have a similar problem, my ESQ1 has an intermittent key issue. While playing some keys will not speak or sound when you hit them, hit them again and they work. It's not the same keys, it's random in order and it's not all the time, drajy51 Are you sure you don't have a dead voice or two? Play chr...

Re: Just got an Ensoniq ESQ-1
Rhino beat me to it with his recommendation to contact Syntaur. Both sliders are 30mm 5k linear taper pots. I've got the Mouser part number at home. I can post it here later. Mine are both good, although I may replace them just to be safe.
Rhino - did you get my note?

Re: Just got an Ensoniq ESQ-1
Enjoy. I recently picked up a very used ESQ for dirt cheap and I'm in the middle of a full restoration. Even had a sequencer expansion cart that the previous owner didn't know about. I've done everything from cleaning the keybed to jumpering diodes on non-sounding keys to replacing the memory batter...

Re: dead keys esq-1
Doubtful that it's programming. I just got done fixing eight dead keys on an old metal-case ESQ-1. They were grouped in pairs spaced eight keys apart. Turns out it was a result of someone spilling coke or some other corrosive drink on the keys years ago. The PCB traces around middle C eventually ate...
