Re: What got you into synths?

Ok, you won't believe that...

But it was NES Megaman II's soundtrack...

I though this thread deserved a second chance...

Obviously blue, surrounded by wood, and somewhat digital.

Money

8-)

Where I live, every synth cost as much as three times the price paid in the US.

Re: Recent unpopularity of Wavestation?

I've had a Wavestation SR for many years. From my experience, it is one of those rare cases where the software version has outperformed the hardware. I've extensively compared the sounds from the SR hardware with the software, and found that the software sounded "crispier" and cleaner, highlighting ...

Re: Top 20 Most Unreliable Vintage Synths

Sadly, I ought to mention the Mono Evolver.

Those pesky encoders are a real let down.

Re: Korg M3: most beautiful synth in the world?

Nah,

I believe the Korg M3 is a very capable and good-looking synth.

But the "Most beautiful synth in the world" has to be the Jupiter 6.

Re: List of Midi Editors/Synths featuring the "Randomize" button

Are there any other software midi editors or synths featuring the "randomize" thing? Sound quest's Midi quest http://www.squest.com/ I've used Midiquest once on a Korg Z1 and tried the randomize feature... with terrible results. Hundreds of mute patches, not practical at all. It may be that with ot...

Re: List of Midi Editors/Synths featuring the "Randomize" button

Since I started using the "randomize patch" function on the Blofeld, I've become addicted to it. Just a question: is there anything I should be aware of when using randomizing on the Blofeld? Such as additional settings etc. I don't seem to get anything useful out of it other than harsh industrial ...

List of Midi Editors/Synths featuring the "Randomize" button

Since I started using the "randomize patch" function on the Blofeld, I've become addicted to it. I've read in some other post that there is also a midi editor for the JD-800 (which I can't remember the name...) that works in a similar fashion. Korg's Microkorg software editor also features one. Are ...

Re: Recent Cheap Finds - Lo-Fi/Toys/Noise

Last week I was browsing my local craiglist when I came across this $200 Lexicon PCM-80. After an initial reluctance, I decided to call the owner and give it a try. Next morning, I went there with a microkorg to test the unit. The vendor tried to turn it on, but no sound came out. After several atte...

Re: Dire Straits - Money For Nothing

Here is an interesting article taken from Mix Magazine's Classic Tracks about this song:

mixonline.com/mag/audio_classic_tracks_dire/index.html

Unfortunately, it doesn't say anything about what synths were used. Worth reading for the curiosity though.

Synth used in Elton John's Nikita

Simple question: Can anybody identify what synth was used in the solo of this song?

I know the keyboard player was Fred Mandel, but so far I haven't got any details on his gear list at that time.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Vocal warping/bending effect. V-Synth?

This video is a VERY nice Simon Posford's interview in his studio. You can see the V-Synth standing in the corner, as well as several other vintage gear.
