Re: I need help figuring out the synths this guy uses
Sidechain compression is sort of a basic technique in electronic music these days. It is basically done by using a compressor that takes signal from two audio sources at the same time, where one of the channels becomes the "source" and the other the "target". Usually, the kickdrum is used as source,...

Re: Drum Machines -- Vst or Hardware??
My advice: Get a UAD card, and some plugins like 1176, LA2A and Neve 1073. It will benefit not only your drum sounds but also your overall production. A 1176 on your synth drum bus will do wonders. Thats how most of the producers I know get "that" sound. Check some demos on youtube, there are plenty...

Re: Staying with Roland jx8p or upgrading to Roland jx-10 ????
Some of you may already be aware of this, but I think it's still worh-mentioning: This guy named Greg Baumont had the brilliant idea of developing a software application that emulates a PG-800, that is also capable of loading sysex to and from the JX-10 without requiring the M64-c. It it a donatiowa...

Re: Midi patchbay???
Here, I use an old midi interface from Opcode for this job. It's a 4-in 6-out midi interface, that also works as a patchbay, with presets available on the front panel. My model is the Studio 64x, but i'm pretty sure that other Opcode models will work as a standalone unit the same way. Yamaha has als...

Yamaha VL-1 and VL-7 current prices...
Hello, During this last week, I had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of finding a Vl1 for $1500 and a Vl7 for $800, from two different sellers in my own city. I am wondering about the current street prices for both the Yamaha Vl1 and Vl7, since I have absolutely NO idea whether this can be consider...

Re: Flying w/ Synths
Flying with synths has always been a nightmare for me. It pretty much depends on a lot of variables: the company you'll be flying with, your departure/destination, the airport crews that will be handling the luggage, the airtport's security protocol, the person next to you on the plane, and - of cou...

Re: oberhiem matrix 6
For that price, it's a great deal! I must warn you though, that the Matrix 6 is a little "moody" sometimes. It requires constant care and cleaning. I have to open mine once every 6 months to clean all the filter ICs, so that the voices remain stable. I've heard of a few people who had to replace tho...

Re: Hardware Floppy Disk Drive Emulator
I've just found a piece of gear on the web that supposedely works as a hardware replacement for a 1.44" floppy drive, that allows the user to load compact flash cards instead. It's called " HDM Uniflash ", and comes from a company in Ukraine (apparently), although they are also marketed by this germ...

Re: why macbooks?
I bought and customized one of those Asus EEE netbooks for live gigs, and it's been paradise ever since. Curious about your customization. I've looked into those and it seems the CPU is too slow and not enough RAM to run music apps (in my case Live 7). Actually, it was nothing extraordinary. I'm us...

Re: why macbooks?
I've been working for 3 years in a trouble-free PC XP environment, running a RME fireface 800 via firewire, and sometimes I completely forget that I'm working on a PC. Even the cheapest PC nowadays will deliver you more processing power than any multitrack analog tape of the 70's ever could. With th...
