Re: ableton live 8 gaps & clicks...

No problem - the ableton forums always seemed a bit barren to me. If you're not out of ram, and have plenty of cpu utilization headroom, there must be a busy bus or other type of bottleneck somewhere. Do you have any drives chained via firewire? Any firewire drives at all? Have you upgraded the vide...

Re: ableton live 8 gaps & clicks...

Definitely try increasing the audio buffer, that's generally the cause of clicks and glitches. Lag sucks, though; try to reduce the number of background processes. Use the Activity Monitor to see what processes are running, kill off things that you don't need, or just take note of which processes ar...

Re: Flame Echometer vs. Looperlative

There's an immediacy to what the ecometer does that appeals to me - actually playing all of your instruments. Which is cool. But, between those two I'd probably go for the Looperlative, as it seems more flexible. Practically endless possibilities with either choice, though. Wow. The Looperlative is ...

Couple of your tracks on myspace are sweet - I enjoyed Deep Space Rockets. Very visual.

Re: One for the vintage synth freaks...

Thanks, I'm giving it a listen now.

edit-
DOPE. Thanks for sharing that link! I especially like Asimovit!, So Beautiful, Black Overture, and Sometime L8tr (which reminds me of Laurent Garnier's Unreasonable Behaviour.) Definitely a lot of heavy gear in there.

Re: what are your favorite digital synths?

MS2000r, Q, and the TX802 / DX7II. I, admittedly, have very limited exposure to many of the other synths you guys mention - never heard a PPG in person. 1. PPG Wave 2.3 - this bizarre blue monster will blow your monitors to bits! - amazing filters leading to earth shattering bass 2. Roland D-50 & PG...

Re: unlock a laptop

nu-tellar, why bring this question here? Seems off-topic. Google is your friend. What kind of password is set? Thinkpads can have a BIOS password or a hard drive password. Does yours have a fingerprint reader? If it's a BIOS password, you're pretty much out of luck. You either have to replace the mo...

Re: Where to find cheap patch cables?

I buy ten packs for $9 from an ebay seller located in Iowa. Random colors, but the quality has always been good.

Anything longer than a patch (and maybe even patch cables, haven't looked) are reeeallyyy cheap at Monoprice.

Re: Kanye West - Paranoid: More electro plz?

Kanye can't sing. That's why he's processing his voice so heavily. He's a badass producer, though. Edit - He performed on american idol last week, it sucked. I'm hoping it was tongue-in-cheek, but his entire "band" consisted of actors pretending to play fake instruments. There was a dude with dark s...

Re: why macbooks?

I've been thinking of picking up a Dell netbook - they're like $200 right now. Would be cool to sit outside with headphones and program some beats.

Re: why macbooks?

As far as D/A converters go, new Macs are PCs. I believe Macbook/Pros have the same Intel ICH7 Integrated Audio / Sigmatel HD Audio combo that most other laptops have. Not the new ones... remember, Apple dumped the Intel chipsets in the newer Macbooks. The older ones? who knows... Apple ain't telli...

Re: Versatile and favorite sequencers: What's yours?

Sexor - that Mario Paint sequencer is a serious flashback! My younger brother had the game, but I loved it. You've inspired a little googling on my part, and it appears that there are now Windows re-makes available: http://www.unfungames.com/mariopaint/ http://778.jugem.jp/?eid=93 And to be on-topic...

Re: why macbooks?

It has to go beyond the sound card no? I mean, the way apple handles audio in their system is completely different to PCs right? Different, yes, but superior? Probably not - Apple uses Core Audio / Audio Hardware Abstraction Layer, Vista uses UAA. I think sound quality in the digital domain has mor...
