Re: why macbooks?

Well, are you basing that off of one laptop? I've had two first gen macbooks with no issues at all. Also, now have a macbook pro which is wonderful. On the flipside I have had many PC laptops that have been rock solid. It comes down to the OS for me... You are right about PC screens though... Apple...

Re: why macbooks?

I'll weigh in here - I work as a developer and designer all day on a Mac, in an all-Mac shop. I've been using PCs at home since I was knee-high. OSX is simple and elegant. Vista is not as simple, but it's faster and looks better. Vista has annoying security dialogs. It's a fallacy that there is a so...

Re: DJ Mixer?

My favorite DJ mixer of all time (but maybe not what you're looking for- no cross fader, only global EQ, 6 bus, more of a line mixer I guess ) the Rane rotary mixer: http://www.rane.com/mp2016s.html Also used the Empath for years - bulletproof and smooth as butter, can't recommend it enough: http://...

Re: What recording chain...

I go back and forth about the best way to set things up, especially because I have such a small mixer at the moment. I use an Edirol FA-101 Firewire interface and a Mackie 802-VLZ3 mixer. I have my synths hooked up to inputs on the mixer, I have the 3/4 alt bus output connected to FA-101 inputs 1/2,...

Re: im in love with my JX8P

I love my JX-8p, too. It's my first analog, and I have to say it's like .. a person. It has a voice, a warm presence. It 'glows' like none of my digital synths can. Not to mention it's incredible size and Max Headroom styling. I have a BCR2000 hooked up and programmed to control parameters realtime ...

Re: Live 8 is announced

I got the email from Ableton announcing 8 just a week after buying 7 :)

I'm particularly excited about MAX for Live - should provide for some serious mind bending!

Re: Yamaha DX-7

I recently picked up a TX802 for $160. It's a rack-mount 8-part multi-timbral DX7II, and I love it. If you don't mind a rack unit, it's an inexpensive way to get some original DX7 action. Sounds much meatier than I expected (especially when all 8 voices are stacked), very retro. Eight separate balan...

Re: Bought my first sampler(korg es-1)

It was my first piece of gear, too. I bought it when they first came out, along with a Roland MC-303. Sold both during college to pay for life. Which I now regret hugely, especially after reading this thread. In fact.. I'm hitting the bay right now..

Have fun with it, killinator!
