Akai S900 Help Needed

Ok ... to make a long story short, I got totally screwed over 70 quid on an Akai S900. I've got a S950 back at home in Cali and really wanted some nice 12 bit grit for use here in the UK, found a deal on a S900, and found the issues when I got home with it. f**k wont return my cash (he stood me up s...

Re: John Foxx - Underpass

foxx also was notorious for using pedals on synths. a good flanger and phaser go great for re-creating the mood of metamatic. one of my all time favorite records.

Re: simulating FX with synth engines

the jupiter 8 is very good for simulating a long delay with a long release time on the amp envelope and a much shorter release time on the vcf envelope. sounds like loads of analog feedback going on. you can add some lfo modulation to the vca/vcf with a saw or square wave to make it more like an ech...

Re: "classic" string synth that's not strictly a string synth

Don't think the sounds of many various digital hardware effects processors are easy (or even possible) to achieve with DAW plug-ins. I do not mean to say the plugs are inferior - this is not my intent. I do mean to say they are different as it concerns their sound. On the digital side, check out th...

Re: "classic" string synth that's not strictly a string synth

that ibanez range is amazing. pull the trigger on that one quick! didn't know you had a space echo but all of the suggested analog delays compliment it very nicely (i've got two space echo's :) ). as to the mxr phase sound, it always did the john foxx phased sound very well for me. i would run a 260...

Re: Your favorite Highpass Filter

the sms's resonant high pass filter. i swear I haven't heard anything like it and it not only works as a mix too to 'shave' things but it sound incredible for noise based percussion!

Re: "classic" string synth that's not strictly a string synth

i usually use a reamp with a lot of synths/daw outs to get the right level/impedance when running pedal fx. a lot of older analogs will have several output settings (like the Roland SH 1 or Korg Polysix where you can set the signal between low and high output) but for a lot of modern (and hotter) eq...

Re: "classic" string synth that's not strictly a string synth

go for the soviet re-issue or the vintage soviet one (the black ones). to my ears both the big muff and the small stone that were usa made don't have the extra bit of 'oomph' that the soviet ones have. i've got a russian vintage small stone that when you feed it a noise source generates the exact ja...
