Re: What is your "Sound"?

my sound has been described as quite recognizable. Maybe because I'm isolated, learned always to create my own sounds, does not use computers, and record a lot of sounds from the rainforest. Has been described as a dense sound, with multiple variants on several frequencies. Sometimes I use too much...

Re: What is your "Sound"?

I like when all the elements of the mix stick together and nothing cuts too much through the mix. I like a natural sound, concise tracks, polyrythmic elements, floating elements, hidden melodies and an overall wobbly/mind-numbing feeling. I avoid virtuoso performances and established standards. I o...

Re: What is your "Sound"?

I would DEFINITELY say that my prodcutions have a unique sonic character. I do have certain drums/instruments that contribute to my sound, but it's mainly how I mix everything. It's like 50/50 when it comes to those aspects, and my sound relies on both. My productions come out with a sonic touch tha...

What is your "Sound"?

Do your productions have a special and uniform sonic character that makes them recognizable from the rest? If so, how would you describe it? What contributes to your sound? Is it certain drums/instruments you use, or is it the certain effects you apply while mixing?

Korg M1: Dancehall/New Age fusion example

Healing Crystals.mp3 - 3.83MB Here is "Healing Crystals", a short Dancehall/New Age fusion tune, typical of my music label. I usually do more hard-edged/erotic numbers with a small touch of New Age, but in this sample tune the focus is on more New Age influence. **ALL** melodies in this clip are fr...

Re: Favorite Effects Plugins

The ones that I use for my studio productions are:

Acoustica VSTs - EQ, reverb, chorus, and phaser mainly
Freeverb 2 - Gated reverb
Kjaerhus classic series - Master/Limiter mainly
TAL-TUBE - For authentic analog warmth
TAL-DUB - Analog delay with resonance and pitch shift

Re: Best DAW on PC?

Acoustica Mixcraft 5 is probably one of the best bang for the buck software DAWs out there. $65. Version 4 was good too but 5 was just released and is leagues better. The OP can check into that and see if he likes it.

Dave & Don Grusin Tune - what sound is this?

Here is a nice tune by Dave & Don Grusin from the "Sticks and Stone" album. I read somewhere online that this album was done with a lot of Yamaha DX-7 and Roland D-50 presets (And upon listening to the album, you can clearly hear them both, esp. DX-7 ). Anyhow, in this song, http://www.youtube.com/w...

Motif (w/ AN board) vs JD-990 (w/ Vintage board)

Hmmmm... I brought this discussion up out of curiosity. I've read several posts on this site that the Roland JD-990 beats most newer digital synths. I wouldn't doubt it. I heard a lot of it's sounds via synthmania.com and it sounds damn nice. A lot of people love the Roland JD-990, but more-so becau...

Re: Yamaha SY-77 vs Roland D-50

Have you tried anything other than the factory patches? It doesn't really come alive until you program it yourself. But there are loads of nice patches out there. I am still learning how to program it. I just got it last last Friday. I downloaded a huge number of patches from the net and still goin...

Re: Yamaha SY-77 vs Roland D-50

I feel what you're sayin here and it's true too. I just won a D-550 a week ago. IMO, the two sound similar as far as the glassy, chrystalline sheen and analog warmth goes (The latter more-so the D-550 of course). The D-550 does sound nice, but just like you, I just don't hear the "magical", "living"...

Re: Roland D-50 virtual editors?

Thanks very much D-Collector for sending the SysexD50! It worked like a charm. The D50Edit doesn't seem to work on my XP though. I mean, it starts up fine, but after the screens where you're promted to press any key to continue, it gets on the final screen, goes haywire a little and then just crashe...

Re: Roland D-50 virtual editors?

Yea the D50VE is deader than h**l. Even when I downloaded it, the interface looked nothing like how it is shown to look on the website. Figured something was wrong.

D-Collector, I am going to PM you with my email address. I would appreciate you sending those files to me if possible.
Thank you much.

Roland D-50 virtual editors?

Does anyone know of any FREE virtual editors that can be used for the D-50/D-550 (I'm using Windows XP BTW, just in case anyone asks)? I have been trying to use this one http://d50ve.w3.to/ , but upon opening the file - When it shows the MIDI in and out buttons - I will receive a run time error. The...
