Re: Which synth is this? Maybe a Virus?

I misread the post at first but the top keyboard you see is a Roland A-50, 76-note midi controller.

Re: E-Mu Proteus MPS Orchestral Plus vs Proteus Rackmount?

You have to factor in the effects of the MPS, which would make the patches more unique than the Proteus racks. The piano samples aren't the same either. They come from the E-mu PROformance module. I believe the Proteus FX has none of the factoy presets found in the MPS+ keyboard, but I'm not entirel...

Re: Looking at Proteus /1 and /2

I honestly love the old Proteus series. I used most of them with the exception of the Pro-Cussion and MPS Keyboards. They are simple and fast to use. Even had a Proteus/1 with the Protologic expansion at some point.

I personally could do with just having a Proteus 2 module at my disposal. :)

Re: Xanadu movie (yeah, the 1980's with Olivia Newton-John)

I never cared much for the movie but I always liked the soundtrack. Great ELO songs and ONJ at her peak. I still have the vinyl and there's a great shot of the Arp2600 in the ineer sleeve pictures...The girls aren't bad looking either :)

Re: 1u rack pad synth

The Ensoniq MR Rack can make great pads. You could also look into the Alesis S4 or for a bit more $$, the E-mu Morpheus.

Re: TX-81z vs FB-01 more similar than different or not?

Program Change is much slower on the TX81z and I like how simpler it is to setup splits, layers or assign voices to midi channels from the front buttons of the FB.

It's always been that way. Nothing new under the sun.

Re: Which synth do you think has the nicest knobs ?

Those Kobol knobs are huge!!

And while I never played one, the clear Gleeman Pentaphonic sports the oddest looking knobs ever.

Re: so Juno 60's are about £1000 now? what the h**l?!

There are two Juno-60s on Kijiji right now. One with DCB/Midi converter for 2000$ and another one for 1900$. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-piano-keyboard/city-of-toronto/roland-juno-60-with-roland-md-8-midi-dcb-interface/1213696053?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true http://www.kijiji.ca/v-piano-keyboa...

Re: Synth for 8/16 bit sounds.

It's already more usable than the MidiNES which has no envelope. I didn't keep mine for that reason alone.

Re: Synth for 8/16 bit sounds.

Any synthesizer with a set of basic waveforms (square, saw, pulse) will do. FM can also do square-wave types well.

Best bet would be a PSS-480/680. It has midi, is multitimbral and makes a great controller.
