Re: Yamha cs-5 keeps on playing and doesn't stop

My guess is you have the VCA's initial mlevel at maximum, set it at 0 and it should be fine

Re: Justice in an interview : Garage Band amazing for production

But these guys CAN play keys, they're not JUST looping other people's music and using preset sounds and phrases. Wat? There were something like 400 uncleared samples in their album "Cross". The argument that sampling is cheating doesn't work well here, because it's very small samples that are playe...

Sure it's all about promotion, marketing and above all finding a fresh sound.

But these guys CAN play keys, they're not JUST looping other people's music and using preset sounds and phrases.

Re: Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.

I've had many emails from frustrated eBay shoppers telling me there's no way someone will buy my item at this price, only to sell it a few days later.

Most people look for bargains, but you only need one buyer who's willing to pay the price.

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths

Them :"So you play piano?" Me : "Not really, I can, but I'm really nothing special, electronic music is a lot of programming" Them : "oh ok" (now they think you're just some kind of lazy poser) Me : "and in fact most of my synths play one note at a time" "what???" (thinking you're lazy and in disbel...

Re: LinnDrum or Yamaha RX5?

Good point, drum machines have feelings too. Also it IS indeed about what these machine ARE not just what they do. They are monuments of a past era. ;) But, yesterday I made a Linndrum drum rack in Ableton 8 and added a bit of mpc2000 groove from the new groove template. I have to say I'm impressed,...

Re: LinnDrum or Yamaha RX5?

You could just use the Rx-5 with your DAW through midi.

Re: LinnDrum or Yamaha RX5?

Samples get so close, it's really hard to justify keeping a Linndrum unless you like the interface and sequencer a lot.

Also there's also sync problems that can occur with hardware that are not ideal with drums.

As for tuning the Linndrum has a global tuning trimpot inside.

Re: LinnDrum or Yamaha RX5?

The Rx is great, function-wise, and was Yamaha's flagship drum machine at the time, but it's a lot cleaner sounding and not quite as punchy as the Linn. You should try samples of both, you'd have a very close impression of both machine's sound. Then you'll know if the Linn is worth the considerable ...

Re: Oberheim DX or SCI Drumtraks?

I've had most of the classic digital drum machines, The Dx is much punchier than the Drumtracks, and the non-midi units usually go for cheaper. The SCI machine have a great MIDI implementation and a nice character, but if you play it next to the DX, it sounds muffled. The Dx is one of the punchiest ...

Arguably exactly the same, but there's still 'something' there.

Re: Fair Price for Jupiter-4?

I don't think it's a case of a chorus "making" the synth.

The JP-4 does great bass sounds, and you need the chorus off for that.

But on strings it's truly awesome.

Re: Fair Price for Jupiter-4?

I stated earlier in the thread that it was discrete. I researched it again and I'm pretty sure I'm mistaking. I meant that it doesn't use custom chips, but then I looked that up and apparently production switched to using the same filter chip as the Jp-8 and Juno 60. Can somebody clarify my thoughts...
