Re: early Killing Joke, what synths?

not to get too far off topic (but I am the OP so won't I be the judge of that?) but didn't Prince do all the studio stuff and his band was mostly for touring? I know he played bass and keys on a lot of his stuff. Not so sure about drums and guitar. Prince could, did and probably will largely play h...

Re: early Killing Joke, what synths?

Yeah Prince is the other act that comes to mind when I think of Oberheims. Sure his patches sound very modulated but it just doesnt sound like the same kind of synth that Jaz is using? Forgive my ignorance of Oberheims, but from what I gather there are the SEM derived synths which have discrete com...

Re: Which monosynth should I get?

Someone was trying to claim the Foundation wasn't a good value I think both here and over on GS last year. Never really saw their point of view and the demos for the Foundation sound great. I haven't looked at the new Cell versions, just the original Foundation. Cool stuff tho.

Re: Torn by Arturia. Spark or Minibrute?

I reckon they've probably made a decision in the last nine months. ;) Yeah, I opted to not get killed by my wife and bought neither cuz we had some stuff that cropped up we needed to pay off. Was kinda odd seeing this necro when I popped in. Hadn't been on the forum much in a couple of months heh.

Re: early Killing Joke, what synths?

He had an Oberheim when I saw them back in the early '80's. weird, I always associate Oberheims with John Carpenter pads and Van Halen anthems. big and brassy but smooth. Kind of the opposite of Jaz's tones? Prince used a crapton of Oberheims in the early 80s as well. I believe the Oberheims were u...

Re: Have Arturia kinda missed their chance with the Minibrut

Arturia may have missed their chance for my money in the near future, but honestly I don't have the spare money to buy a MS-20 Mini either right now. I've wanted the MS-20 for awhile and iMS-20 only gets you so far :) CV out from the MInibrute for controlling my Minitaur and Freqbox would be nice, b...

Re: New Moog

I dunno. I saw a pic of Stevie Wonder and Bernie Worrel both on Sub Phatties. That would have been worth the price of the trip right there. Tell me Moog shot footage of that one, not just a picture.

Re: Korg Mini MS-20

Damnit! Last year at tax time it was a Freqbox and Minitaur (I returned the Monotribe, didn't gel for some reason and the return was used toward the MInitaur). This year I was planning to get a new guitar, but since I just used some Christmas money to pick up a Duo Sonic, maybe I have to get the Min...

Re: New Moog

It makes me smile... A lot complain it is unplayable due to the size of keyboard and then others want CV and Gate out to obviously play something else!! I don't mind the keyboard size, my MiniBrute is fine. I would just have a lot of fun chaining CVs together between several synths and seeing what ...

Re: New Moog

Thanks for saving me that one mouse click? Full quoting massive post to say one sentence. Classy. A Memorymoog is awesome , nothing here i see that has not been done before nothing standout from the rest, you sound like someone easily taken in with new gizzmos. Looks like plenty of space to me and ...

I love how ridiculous it all is...

Re: Help picking a new synth? Microkorg/XL/Mininova/r3 or ot

I would go so far as to say its not better than the R3 by a long shot. The ultranova smokes all of those you mentioned though, and doesn't cost much more. It's the only one with aftertouch, has cool mod triggers, programmable arpeggiator, bonus audio interface too. The vocoder isn't great though, t...

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth

I spoke w/Nova Musik today (and they told me they have teamed up w/Kraft Music now), but I spoke w/someone who gave me the small bit they know. According to the latest from Arturia they are expecting their allotment (which will cover all their eixtsing pre-orders) in either October or November. He t...
