Re: EMU 4000 Hard disk questions

I thought it was scsi at first, but it does the same exact thing with it's own internal floppy drive with nothing else connected.

Re: EMU 4000 Hard disk questions

Sounds a little like my ESI. My 4000 is buggy when it comes to saving and loading, to say the least. More projects have died as a result of disk issues than have come out as songs. None of my other samplers do this, even the e6400 ultra which has no problem saving or loading even from zip disks. I c...

Re: Yamaha PSS-680- improve the sounds on a budget?

Do you want to hook something up in order to program better sounds, or do you want an effects processor that will improve the quality of its sounds?

Re: How to loop (or repeat?) sequence on Roland MC-500 MkII

Hold shift and hit play, and it will loop. Also, go into one of the menus on the left row of buttons and set the block loop to the number of bars you want, if you don't want it to loop your whole sequence. There might be an on/off control as well.

Re: Most affordable hardware synth that can upload samples t

All three answers above are somewhat correct but easter12 didn't state clearly whether he/she meant new or used and what kind of samples...one shots like individual drums, loops, multisampled instruments like pianos. :agree: The Akai S2000 is cheaper than all these, and you can load samples on it. ...

The JP-8000 seems to be getting a lot of esteem lately! It should definitely be able to do all the bread and butter sounds of the old analogs

Re: I Need Your Sysex Data Dump Expertise (Korg Z1)

I think the Z1 might show the dump completed successfully message only to show it sent the data out through its port. So it's sending data, but something is happening in between or at the receiving end. Can you monitor the midi data at the other end of your cable to make sure data is actually coming...

Re: Help getting started

I'd say learn how to use Ableton and your midi controller first, then add hardware as you want to expand. It should come with a bunch of sound source vsts right out of the box. If you got some hardware, you're most likely going to have to learn to use Ableton anyway once you start recording your har...

Re: Popularity of Korg N364/Korg M1/Yamaha DX7 in Latino mus

Probably, like anything else, the closer you (and your audience) pay(s) attention to the details, the more important the details are. To someone from the outside, the details might not seem that significant. Just like to those outside of the world of synths, keyboards are just keyboards, the CS-80 i...

Re: Making a Decision (first "real" synth)

You can chain 2 JP-08s together (or more?) to get more polyphony. You should be able to pick 2 up for $600, and if one of your other keyboards has midi out, you can just buy the modules (forgoing the little keyboard, which I actually like; though I'm alone on this) and play it from that. That's also...

Re: One synth songs

The parameters for the last comp were basically this:
No drum machines - all drums had to be programmed on the Synth as best it could.

Unlimited overdubs or instances of a hardware Synth, but only 2 effect types. You could use reverb and delay, but or distortion and reverb, but not all 3.

You're best bet is to RTFM for a lot of these questions. Do you have TFM so you can R it?

Re: Favorite sub-$200 Reverb/Delays (Hardware)

I'm a big fan of the Yamaha SPX 50D. It's cheap, and it can do a 99 second reverb time! Sounds great too, nice and warm.

I also have an Aria DEX-100 delay I got from Nuke it that I like. It has lots of hands on control, and a great sound! :drinks:
