Re: Buying my first synth, a VA roland synth - needs advice

Use the site's search function to get more tips on what to look for when you're testing a Synth. You need some familiarity with how a synth works, but basically you want to spend some time at each section of the synth, making sure the controls are changing the sound, where appropriate. Don't be afra...

Re: S2800 sampling input trouble. help (sanity check)

Sp/dif is a type of digital input. You need to play a sound from something with an sp/dif out, like a sound card, or a synth such as the access virus ti. If you go into the sample section of the sampler, where the input says analog, you can scroll over to it and change it to digital, wich will show ...

Re: Uli Behringer's deeply concerning post

Uli discrediting Moog is like Suzuki discrediting Mercedes Benz: at the end of the day, people are still going to want that 500SL, and will still be willing to pay a little extra just to be associated with the brand. just a little sidenote -- Suzuki is very wellknown for a worlds fastest motorcycle...

Would you consider a Fizmo?

Re: Uli Behringer's deeply concerning post

It's not really about optimism or human nature, but about the market itself. Moog is an established high end brand, and Behringer is a budget brand with a sketchy reputation. Their customers are likely to have different values and possibly different applications from the outset. Moog has a lot of cu...

Re: Uli Behringer's deeply concerning post

In this post (see URL below) on Gearslutz, Uli Behringer calls into question the costs associated with Moog production. Surely that constitutes an attack on Moog? Meanwhile, his company, in many instances, does no ‘blue-skies / exploratory’ R&D (is he even aware of the costs of true synthesiser R&D...

Did they? Which ones? I'm curious now!

Re: Roland's Jupiter-8, Juno-106 and System-8 plugins availa

Who in their right mind would subscribe to something like that? You could end up spending a fortune for some software emulations, and be left with peanuts when you decide to stop paying. The only way it could make sense is if the rates are very low, and you use it for a short period of time - like i...

Re: Survey on Analog vs Virtual Analog Synths

A better test would be to have a midi controller set up to control a small group of synths. The synths would be a mix of VA and analog gear, and be set up so that the participant can't see them, or have access to them. The participant would hear all of the synths at the same level through the same m...

Re: What poly-synths can have separate envelopes per voice?

The Fizmo can have 2 independent voices per part, and has 4 parts that can all have their own envelopes and settings. I never find that it needs more than one or two though, as it's easy to get carried away and program something odd!

Re: A new Sampler/Grooverbox

I just feel it lack in term of audio quality. For example low become fast muddy and imprecise, (hard to associate kick and bass without it dribble from everywhere) and the high (cymbal, charley etc.) lot of aliasing, not really good effects - who add more aliasing (sensation of crenelage and numeri...

Re: Beginner looking for a good first synth/sequencer

Regardless of the TS mentioning not wanting to use a DAW, this would exactly be my advice. To start up something for $250, even if it's junk from <a class="vglnk" target="_blank" href="http://www.ebay.com/" rel="nofollow"><span>eBay</span></a>, is very hard. Especially because, for production, a sy...

Re: TB-03 vs TB-3 - your thoughts?

I hope the TB-3 tanks in price, as I'd love to pick one up for dirt cheap. I was under the impression they had the same exact sound engine, but the 03 was something like a more focused special edition in a replica style boutique housing. I could be wrong though. If anything, the TB-03 is the one whi...

Re: Have you noticed Roland D50 being so expensive?

Scrolling through Ebay, I actually think they're exactly the same price they were when I was looking for one years ago. I got a good deal from a forum member on one that had a little wear, but was otherwise pretty good, so of you're patient, they do come up

Re: Can anyone identify this acid synth? Genaside 2

It is very characteristic of 303, likely some sort of clone of some sort and there are many, because it sounds too clean to be an actual 303 to me. There is also some delay/echo on top of it. It's true, there are many clones. If you keep the master volume down you can get a cleaner sound out if it ...
