Re: Isolation Transformer

Are you talking about for 120 VAC power or for audio signals? I have a couple of (expensive) Jensen boxes I use for the occasional audio hum I can't seem to fix any other way. They work great with synths, never have overdriven one. For power, I used a Sola isolation transformer for a while but it st...

Re: CS-80 Question: 70 ohm Resistance Between+15V and GND

Of course working load and unpowered resistance are two different things so there still could be a problem. Just saying it's not like it's a dead short or something, and at least it makes somewhat reasonable sense. I get 187 ohm on the CS-50 from the ground rail to the +15 rail. Please let us know w...

Re: CS-80 Question: 70 ohm Resistance Between+15V and GND

By the math that's 214 mA which sounds about right to me. My CS-50 (with a couple of extra voice cards in it) pulls around 187 mA on the +15 rail when it's running, so a 214 mA value on a CS-80 with all the extra overhead would be a perfectly acceptable value I would think. I wouldn't give it anothe...

Yamaha CS-80

Bought a project CS-80 for a good price. Currently inoperative and partially disassembled, but it's all there.

Many thanks to knolan for the advice prior to purchase! Took delivery 02/19/2018.

Re: Is Encore Electronics Still In Business ?

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

Guess I'm out of my element now, I really can't advise; maybe others will chime in.

I've purchased a few items from him and never had a problem and was able to get an e-mail stream going at one point to resolve an issue. Sorry to hear about your experience.

Re: Is Encore Electronics Still In Business ?

Tony isn't the best communicator; I expect he gets overwhelmed with spoonie e-mails. Regarding his products, if it's shown as available on his 'Products & Prices' page (which the OB8MK is) I'd just click on the Add To Cart link and send him the money. I recently bought an Expressionist and it arrive...

Re: Oscillators always oscillate?

Sorry, I meant "what frequency is a VCO oscillating at before any key is pressed and a sample and hold circuit locks it into the last played pitch's frequency?" I'm guessing something like this varies between hardware, but is it generally higher/lower than the keys' pitches? Good question and again...

Re: using Japanese voltage equipment with U.S. voltage stepd

I think you meant UK to US step down. I've gone through the same considerations, I always end up opting for the proper transformer to make it right if you can't rewire the synth internally. If it blows something was it worth it to try? Now you have a repair on your hands AND you still need the trans...

Re: Juno 106 problem

Step one in debugging any synth is to check the power supply voltages. Check them right at the power supply first, but then again at the various circuit boards if it checks out ok at the supply itself. Only then is it time to move on to deeper explorations.

Re: Rhodes Chroma - Tempco Resistors

There were two manufacturer's whose temco resistors made it into production. One mfg's parts were slow to respond to temperature change, so ARP/CBS/Rhodes called for a field replacement to change those out to the other manufacturer's resistors. The originals are not available in normal production th...

Re: Bought a Prophet T8... how alone am I?

Congrats on the T8 purchase, my favorite action. Pretty much my only 'seller's remorse' synth. The black knobs indicate those parameters which are stored when saving programs. To that end, the silver knob on the Prog Volume (programmable volume) should be swapped with the Sequencer Rate knob which i...

Meguiar's Plast-X from automotive stores. Shake well, don't rub too hard, use a soft cotton cloth (NOT paper towels), wet the cloth first with water, and it will do the job. The worse it is, the longer it will take to bring it back to life, but it can be done. I've seen amazing results in short orde...

Got one of these for better calibration range on synth setup procedures than what I have now.
