Re: Best synth buys you've made

Scored a CS-20M off Craigslist in Cincinnati this weekend for $10, blowing fuses.

Replaced a couple of capacitors and all's well. Best deal I ever got, but I'm not really a bargain hunter.

Poll: Who's the best synth manufacturer.

Simple. Who's the best? You get three votes. Polling only allows ten slots, so if I left out your favorite, sorry. These guys have stood the test of time. Left out stuff like the unaffordable Synclavier or more esoteric Gleeman. Just mainstream gear. Would have thrown in Clavia if I'd had another sl...

D-550 Backlight Replacement Procedure?

I remember seeing a .pdf or such somewhere on the web with color photos on the procedure for replacing the backlight on the Roland D-550 or similar Roland module.

A Google search turned up empty. Anyone have a link?

Re: Relatively new to this, Awesome forum

You're opening a whole new world of wallet-based pain, you know... :D :| :( You can get a pretty nice synth with a lot of controller-type features that will probably do everything you're thinking it should, and a whole lot more, for about the same amount of money. Wot's yer budget? Knowing ...

Re: What is a good keytar?

I used the KX-5 back in the '80's and still have it, although it mostly sits in the corner. I do find it seems to impart that "something special' when reproducing bass lines however, and pull it out occasionally for that. It is pro quality. The only maintenance I've had to do is clean the midi conne...

Re: Better Effects In My Motif ES or Cubase?

Hi, MBF, and thanks for the reply. " BTW, mLAN is not 2 channels...you can run at least 16 channels . " True for the 16 midi tracks for the Motif's internal tracks, but for bringing in all my other outboard stuff, it's all got to come through the one mLan stereo pair via the A/D input on the back of...

Better Effects In My Motif ES or Cubase?

Still learning the ropes here, please help. I do sequenced music only. Given that... If I want to apply some reverb/compression/mastering type effects to tracks, would I be better off using the plug-ins Cubase or the onboard effects in the Motif ES? To clarify, all my synths come into the box via th...

Re: What was the worst synthesizer you've ever owned?

The Prophet 600 I bought new back in the day would lock up in mid-song, make weird noises occasionally at the worst possible time, and the keypad of course sucked, especially when you needed to change patches in a hurry or in the dark. The sound always seemed a bit weak as well. Other than that it w...

Re: D-50 schematics?

When I was working with my A-50 to pot mod the aftertouch sensitivity, I noticed the op amp would "warm up" dramatically. Shove down and hold to a midi output of say 70 (of 127), and within a half second it would climb, climb, climb and eventually stabilize. If you used it a lot (like playing a long...

Re: is less more with synths?

I've found I need MORE to discover what the 'less' will ultimately be. I'm in this same boat. After laying out of music for so many years, I missed a lot of gear and need to know what it does to make a good decision on what I want to use. When the bug hit again in 2003 (somewhat forced on me by my ...

Nice car; bought a new EX35 a few months ago myself. It honks.

If the SY77 is in any kind of decent condition, it's a no-brainer. Go get it quick.

Re: TG/SY77 High Contrast Blue Replacement LCD Module

I have a left and right cap from the SY99 I recently restored (forked over the bucks for the new parts) I'd sell them both for say $10 bucks plus whatever to ship.

They may not be in much better condition than what you have now though. Can PM a photo if interested.

Re: Need Help From An SY77 Owner

Hi B3groover and thanks for the reply. On the files I downloaded from the web, all the effects are off and everything is defaulted. The effect mode is off, so I don't know the effect was run, i.e., serial, parallel, what effects. All the effect send levels are at zero, and effect parameter for eleme...
